This Week We Feature Young Professional Courtney A. Jones

“Cubics are all the same but diamonds are one in a million. Every diamond has a different cut a different clarity so I like fine things.” Mr. Courtney A. Jones said this is one of the things that define him. Another would be his belief that money will find you once there is a good idea. “People say well I need money to fulfill my dreams but I say you need a good idea. You have a good idea and money will find you.”
Mr Jones is the managing director of the young budding company named Smart Home Real Estate. It’s a company owned by Mr Jones and other partners and focuses primarily on Real Estate, Automation and Development.
He is a deep rooted Virgin Islander who prefers no other place in the world than this Territory he calls home.
Mr Jones was schooled right here in the Virgin Islands including at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) and also spent some time at the University of the Virgin Islands doing Marketing and Real Estate. He described himself as an innovative, creative thinker who loves the finer things of life and enjoys giving others what he likes to receive. “I really like fine things, maybe that’s why I married my beautiful wife Layla (La-ee-la),” he said on a light note while adding, “LOL that might just give me some points for later, you never know.”
His marriage to Mrs. Layla S. Jones has produced two wonderful sons- Elyon and Emery. He credits his wife for being the backbone to him bringing his visions to reality and said he would not trade her for anything in the world.
He also said that from a boy he relished the idea of looking at what seemed like nothing and envisioning transforming it into something exquisite.
While his line of business may be one that is said to be of the norm, there is something that is very unique about how he sells his products, attracts customers and develops this industry. “There are a lot of real estate companies but we intend to be very different from our competitors,” said Mr Jones.
His company was derived from working at other real estate, property development and automation companies respectively. “So I said why not fuse these three disciplines into one and allow customers to “Experience the Difference”. Everybody is into HGTV, they want to design their home in comfort and style. So what is this new location all about? It is about giving the clients what they are looking for; a breathtaking buying experience,” said Mr Jones
He broke the news of moving his company into a new location, one which has attracted a unique marketing strategy. They will soon be fully moved into a space at the upper flat of the Riteway Food Market in Pasea Estate on Tortola. “Everything in here is all about show and tell. It has the ability to make every client feel special regardless of their budget. Purchasing homes in the Virgin Islands for many years has been just for a small elite group and I have sold homes like that for the uncommon expatriate, but for the middle class Virgin Islander they have been left out of the circle and the only bad thing about an inner circle is not being in it,” Mr Jones explained.
That is one thing our Young Professional, along with his partners, hopes to change with the new design and focus of their real estate company. “We have spent a lot of time, resources and money to source proper construction elements that will help middle income Virgin Islanders, which represents the mass majority. “Riteway is the right way to go,” he said.
“We are very excited to launch our new product line shortly, right here on the second floor of Riteway. All I would say is that it’s concrete, it’s modular, it’s economical and it’s going to give everyone what they are looking for. “Now that’s smart.”
While Mr Jones agreed to be featured as a Young Professional for the Week, he said this was not really his style as he is not one to be craving the spotlight. He said he is a firm believer in succession planning and allowing others to show and practice their skill.
To some it may sound strange but it’s the fact that his main hobby is thinking. He loves to dream and take the necessary action to bring those dreams into reality. To youths, he had this to say, “Don’t say, today I am going to try my best, just do your best.” He said the word ‘try’ gives you a 50% chance that you will fail, while doing your best is 100% progress.
“Don’t let money distort what you believe is possible and dictate what you do in life… Money finds people with good ideas so get a good idea, believe in something, I would say believe in God, have faith in him because times get rough and if you don’t have soundness of mind you would feel like you are going crazy. Giving up is not an option, stay consistent. You should also find good mentors to guide you along the way.”

Why oh why can't more of our young men do something fullfilling with their lives rather than wasting it sitting on the side of the road smoking, drinking, robbing or refusing to go to school & get an education
