ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– There seems to be a new interest by thieves in this COVID-19 era in the Virgin Islands- expensive tools.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is urging the public to place the needed security around tool container units as theft of tools has been reported within the past month.

Theft of tools

In a press release today, December 1, 2020, the RVIPF said less than a month ago, a company truck parked overnight in the Wickhams Cay area was forcibly opened and tools totaling over $5,500 were taken.

It said, similarly, an employee arrived at a job site in Fat Hogs Bay this week to find the door to the building under construction unlocked, the hinges detached, and several pieces of expensive tools were reported missing.

“Pieces of equipment were reported missing from other work sites as well,” the RVIPF said.

Police are urging contractors and foremen to ensure there is enough lighting around containment units to discourage thieves from entering at nights. Security cameras can also be very useful in monitoring and recording activities while no one is on the premises.

Police are further appealing to anyone with information into these thefts to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or the RVIPF access number 311.

“All information will be treated with the strictest confidence,” the RVIPF assured.
