‘They will have to kill me first’ before renaming EAPS- Hon Turnbull
The new building for the school, thanks to a $2M donation by founder and former majority owner of Road Town Wholesale Ltd Mr Peter Haycraft, was commissioned on Monday, September 9, 2019.
Speaking at the Commissioning Ceremony, Hon Turnbull said someone called him and strangely asked if the school would be renamed.
“And I said they have to kill me first because this school, when it changed from Meyers School, it is ‘the’ Enis Adams Primary School, and we will fight to keep it that way,” Hon Turnbull stated.
The legislator did not say what names, if any, were being suggested.
Speculations were; however, shot down by Acting Chief Education Officer Connie E. George, who assured the persons at the ceremony, which included family of the late educator Enis I. Adams-Cushnie, “there was never a talk about changing the name of this institution, never.”
The Enis Adams Primary School, formerly the Meyers Primary School, was renamed in 1988 in honour of its first principal and stalwart educator in the Virgin Islands, the late Enis I. Adams-Cushnie
The school first opened its doors in 1963 with a total of 112 students.

Ohh ye small minded people
Both Mr Haycraft and Teacher Enis are classic respectable stalwarts in their own rights of the community they represent/ed; and both bring/brought so much wealth in different ways; but there are no differences in “The Good” intentionality's of either; and Because I speak from having been in a room with either of them in respective regards of philanthropy and educator (whose love for progress went beyond the production and to the promise of a people whose advancement mattered) I still think we must match acceptance with gratitude and respect with honor! Both is possible as we thrive forward into another decade; way more people are going to have to be honorees so let’s be inclusive and fair!
PS: This PK loves too much confusion!!
