ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Police are encouraging boat owners to ensure there is security around their vessels and around areas where engines are kept as there has been a rise in theft of boat parts.

Whole engines valued up to $14,000, propellers, engine parts, fueling systems and fan belts were reported stolen recently, particularly from vessels parked at home and on dry docks.

Deputy Commissioner Alwin James noted that whatever the reason is for the rise in thefts of boat parts, whether it be the upcoming Poker Run or just the arrival of the summer months, owners should make the necessary adjustments and ensure that there is proper lighting and security cameras to keep these conveyances visible.

Persons who have information that can help in the investigation of these thefts are asked to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 468-9339.

I don't expect thievery here or any place else...what next? August festival coming, expect more thievery? Tourist season coming, expect more thefts? I'd rather see RBVIPF do their job and catch these thieves.
Secondly, why is RBVIPF saying thievery is to be expected with the Poker Run? Have they mentioned this to the organizers?
