BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Businessman and former political candidate Troy E. Christopher has expressed his concern that the United Kingdom (UK) policing structure does not serve as a shining example for the Virgin Islands (VI).

He shared his views during the Umoja programme on ZBVI 780 AM on November 12, 2025, as discussions continued regarding the controversial removal of local Jacqueline E. Vanterpool as Acting Commissioner of Police, with plans to replace her with a male former Commissioner of Police from Gibraltar.

Governor Daniel Pruce's pick also has a checkered past.

Several individuals have spoken out against this decision, and tensions continue to rise in the public. There will be a march against the decision at 3:00 PM today, November 14, 2025, and a signed petition is to be issued to the Governor expressing the public's support for Ms Vanterpool and their displeasure with the Governor's decision.

Christopher emphasised, "The UK does not have any shining example to show us about policing. Their records are really tarnished."

The UK has had a long history of bringing white UK nationals to serve as Police Commissioners, even while there are qualified persons in the force and in the Caribbean to lead the RVIPF.

Discrepancies in UK Metropolitan Police Force

Christopher further highlighted that there have been discrepancies within the UK Metropolitan Police Force, asserting that the Virgin Islands should not follow their model. He questioned, "What is it about the UK's structure that you think that we should be fascinated with? Because there are so many reports and challenges that the UK is having within their police force.’’

Baroness Casey Report

Christopher referenced a report by Baroness Casey published in March 2023, which criticised the Metropolitan Police Force for being institutionally racist, misogynistic, and homophobic. He noted that the report concludes that systemic failures have allowed predatory and discriminatory behaviours to flourish, detailing the mistreatment of women and various misconduct within the force.

He further added that, "It is only if we are not informed people, that we could figure well we should take all lessons from the UK's police force, because over and over they continue to have problems."

UK Police forces are good at solving homicides.

That is one of the reasons they don’t want UK officers here because the UK officers will serve the crimes and the unsolved murders.

This man has no experience of UK policing. Please explain what experience and qualifications he possesses to give such judgement - just talking C***! Why is this news, a no knowledge individual talking about something he knows nothing about??

Something has gone wrong between January 2002 and October 2017. Global terrorism is real. Social Media terrorism is real. Terrorism has not gone away. The terrorists have not gone away. The terror groups have not gone away. They are everywhere and they can strike at any time. Planed terrorist attacks and personal attacks can happen any where in the world including the British Virgin Islands. The BVI have got to find law enforcement tactics to make the BVI safe for everyone. The BVI is going to need a counter terrorism task force.

I only support you because I am a serving member. In the last ten years, we have a lot of UK officers who had done illegal policing to have persons arrested. But, in order to save the face of the UK, they are either paid off on their contract or nothing comes out of it. All the black officers are charged while UK whites are given their contract monies. We can start back as far as 2014

Where is this chequered past. He was cleared of any wrong doing. When will you clear him? This is false reporting of the worst. You should not be reporting that. He is was a Police Commissioner clear of any wrong doing.

We cannot say the same of past members of our HOA.

He is now our ACoP. We wait to see who is the next CoP. To see whether the Governor like the Premier and HOA ignores the input of a Commission or takes their time, effort and experience on board

Troy Christopher also is no shining example of anything. He, wanting to take away the voice of the people over self determination through a referendum. He is in the, VI people are DUMB and need educating brigade along with Shaina and the others.

The VI people are not dumb. They know what they want and are ready to tell the UK, the UN and Natalio and the HOA if they are ever given the chance. Too much time spent by squeaky clean Troy and others trying to find a way around the people of the VI choosing and having the HOA13 choose for us. We know what they will choose. INDEPENDENCE and CORRUPTION.

The VI people do not want that. They want a better VI, not a worse one. Better only for the Elites.

BuzzBvi, won't a referendum express the views of the majority of the people?

Ignorance. Pure ignorance. I trust the UK police with my life. I wouldn't trust the BVI police with the booboo in my nose. I know not how they screen the ones they bring here and why they perform the way they do but I would think that the inadequate security systems, stone ages data systems and absolute culture shock when they actually start living in that territory does not help them one bit. Is he as a hopeful politician more qualified than the politicians in the UK is the question. Heck no if this is the piddle...liquid brain syndrome at best? GTHOH!!

I sat in on a criminal trial reently in the High Court and was just in time to hear the testimony of a seasoned UK veteran police officer, who I am sure we pay big money for his services to our country. I was not at all impressed. He stated he had over 25 years experience in the UK Force and he was the head of a certain high profile investigation and he was seriously taken to task by some of our local defence lawyers and made to look like he neglected to follow investigative protocols by the book. I saw no difference between his testimony and the testimony of the officers from the Eastern Caribbean. I am happy that you hold them in such high esteem, but it seems to me that when the come to the beach, they take off their Metropolitan Police thinking caps because I felt I could answer some of those questions better than he did. They are all of the opinion that our crime rate is negligible anyway so they relax and do the bare minimum. Six of one and half a dozen of the other.

It has nothing to do with if Jackie was a male would she have been passed up the position. Next door in St.Thomas the Police Commissioner is female. I’m quite sure there were men that applied and got over looked for whatever reason.Did anyone freaked out? Jackie was simply not qualified for the position. If Jackie feels she was wronged, take the case and present it to the High Court

Ullger is still under criminal investigation. He's been cleared of some things but not all. What he's being investigated for now is very serious
