'The time for youths is now' – VIP’s Sharie B. de Castro

-Scores rocked out to local musical performances at VIP’s Youth Rally
In the words of the VIP’s own ‘Youth Voice of Change’, Ms Sharie B. de Castro, “I am overwhelmed as I look out and see so many of my peers in the crowd. I want to start by saying loud and clear that I do not agree with the well-known cliché́ that defines the youth as 'future leaders',” she told those gathered. Photo: Facebook

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As the politics of the 2019 elections season winds down, the Virgin Island Party’s (VIP) youth rally was revitalised with music and energy last evening, February 15, 2019, to packed crowds in the Waterfront Drive area of Road Town on the main island of Tortola.

“I have thought long and hard about this and I have decided that I no longer want to use the term the youths are the future. We always hear this, but the future always takes a very long time to come.”

Tomorrow never comes

“Will tomorrow ever come?” Ms de Castro further went on to question those gathered, “BVI, I propose to you that the time is now. Young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow, we are the leaders of today. Tonight, I refuse to engage in a conversation about why we, the youth population, should be included. I will not entertain the notion that we are not ready,” Ms de Castro implored.

While pushing and encouraging VI’s youths to speak up and stand firm for their rights and to seat at the table, she left them with parting advice.

“The world we live in tomorrow depends on what we do to empower young people today…  I am happy that the Virgin Islands Party is confident enough in us to put a youth on their At-Large team. With the Virgin Islands Party, the youth of this territory will move in one direction Forward!”

Everyone of them (VIP) Candidates can head a Ministry! It takes being given a Chance to prove leadership! Leaders are not born, they are created upon growth and productivity! We need to work together as a Team (The Voters and Elected Politicians) to be Progressive! VIP All the Way!
