The perfect location found for Xmas in the City?
The annual event has and continues to be the territory's signature event on Tortola that officially ushers in the festive season.
It started out and spent many years along Main Street. It was then shifted to DeCastro Street; however, when the traffic turnaround was effected in 2020, organisers were forced to once again shift to another location, the frontage of the Central Administration Complex.
That latter location saw many complaining of being adversly affected by dust and the rough surface of the ground.
This year, according to City Manager Ms Janice Braithwaite Edwards, Shore Drive was chosen as the Central Administrative frontage is inaccessible due to reconstruction works there.
It's all about the location
During a tour of the activities on Friday evening several patrons and vendors expressed great satisfaction and comfort at the location, "This is it, this is it, they have found the perfect location for this event," commented one patron.
A food vendor, who chose only to be named as Mrs Rymer, said, "As you can see, the traffic is not affected in any big way, this small road is closed, yes, but the main road has traffic flowing smoothly and that is why the need to let this be the permanent location for Christmas in the City."
Mr Karl S. Brown commented, "Three things, 1. They shouldn't move from here, 2. They should do some of the entertainment further down the line where some of us are located to bring people to us and finally this should be a three-day event Friday, Saturday and Sunday."
