ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town was transformed into an oasis of beauty, splendour, oh it was pleasurable to behold. The décor was a work of art, with high-end taste, colours and you would not have missed the red carpet.

It was last evening, January 18, 2025, that cultural icon, national hero and prominent businesswoman Ms Patsy C. Lake hosted her 80th birthday party at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Many people described the big birthday bash as the ‘Mother of all Parties’, with over 500 guests. Residents from all walks of life were in attendance, from the Political Class headed by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and First Lady Mrs Carolyn M. Shallow-Wheatley, Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) and wife Mrs Kharid T. Fraser and the Leader of the Opposition Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) to name a few.

Who is who was in the house

The business class was there in numbers, captains of industries, doctors, lawyers, engineers, public officers, the academic class, the clergy, athletes, farmers, service club members, Ms Lake's employees, the media, many heads of statutory boards, the private sector, immediate family of Ms Lake, other current and former legislators. Three former Speakers of the House of Assembly (HoA) were there, including Julian Willock and Ms Ingrid A. Moses Scatliffe.

You could not escape the real movers and shakers of the Territory’s elite class and social influencers such as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Cyril B Romney Tortola Pier Park Ms Zoe J. Walcott, Attorney Ayana S. Hull, businessman, physical education teacher, retired basketball superstar and promoter Steve E. Parillon, and business mogul M. Ashley Ritter, who all came together to celebrate with Ms Lake. If you missed the party last evening it is because you sent a 'regret', or you are not on the ‘who is who’ list in the Virgin Islands.

We did not miss her son-in-law at the party, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), the Minister for Communications and Works and wife Mrs Suzanne K. Rymer, who is the daughter of Ms Lake.

Also in attendance were former Premier Dr D. Orlando Smith OBE and wife Hon Lorna G. Smith OBE, a current member of the HoA, and two prominent sons of the cloth- Bishop John I Cline and Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline.

They danced the night away

There was a variety of entertainment including from the Sea Cows Bay's own Lashing Dogs, and Razor Blades, who closed out the night, Mr Elmore Stoutt with his Zion Songs, renditions by Ms Lake's grandchildren among others and of course Craig A. Lake aka ‘DJ Push Pop’ who was the floor's technical general. One of the highlights of the event was the fireworks just before the guests paid tribute by singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Ms Lake.

There was plenty of dancing, and food and drinks to feed a nation.

Ms Lake was gracious and elegant in her red dress with an air of high-end sophistication, and wit as always and gave a vote of thanks like only she could.

Many residents who were also 'dressed to kill’ left the party with gratitude and humility.

We know that no one else in the VI can throw a party with such high quality, skilful organisation, and strong support via attendance like Ms Lake.
