BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- The embattled Commissioner of Police Mr Mark Collins has been accused of dodging opportunities to address the public.

Previous Governor John J. Rankin had ordered a review into a myriad of complaints against Mr Collins; however, it is unclear whether Commissioner of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Kurt Walton, who was tasked with the review, has submitted a report as yet.

According to talk show host Violet Thomas-Gaul, Mr Collins has been invited many times on her show, Talking Points, but he has not taken up the offer.

“I have been trying to get the Commissioner of Police on [the show] but for whatever reason he seems to be afraid to address the people in the territory,” Thomas-Gaul stated on Talking Points on ZBVI 780 AM on Monday, June 17, 2024.

Traffic noise near St Paul’s Anglican Church

Meanwhile, Thomas-Gaul was at the time interviewing Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), when she asked the Minister what could be done to prevent the noise of traffic during church hours in the vicinity of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Sea Cows Bay.

“Something needs t be done. Either remove them [speed bumps] completely or put some police officers out there during the morning when we have prayers, because the revving up of the big trucks and the motor bikes and everything creates quite a problem for the church. It’s sad that we are right next to the road but that is the way life is,” Thomas-Gaul said.

Hon Rymer said he would have a conversation with the District Representative about the situation, adding that usually the speed bumps are requested by the District Representatives on the recommendation of his constituents.

“What I know is that we are in that same area taking up the existing asphalt to get the road ready for resurfacing, so we can look at that to see how we can make it more comfortable for you to pray while you at church,” Hon Rymer added.

I would advise mrs Gaul to pray to the Lord to help her accept the things that she cannot change.

The speed bumps are there obviously to slow down the traffic to avoid any problems with pedestrians. once they are removed and the traffic goes speeding by, she will complain again

Since when does the CoP decide where the speed bumps go? She needs to be speaking to Public Works.

Maybe the church needs to sound proof itself from external noises.

Margret you are correct, sound proofing is the answer. That way I don’t have to listen to the shouting preacher and bad singing in the early Sunday morning!
