Textbook launched: Financial Services Demystified heads to schools
Author Ms Ayana S. Hull presented autographed copies of her book to various persons and officials in attendance during the brief ceremony, which included Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron V. Walwyn.
Hon. Walwyn said with the launching of the new text book, we have decided to record our history, ourselves. He offered congratulations to the author for her diligence and vision in completing the project and expressed gratitude for the effort put into the project and the resultant quality of work.
“Ms Hull," he expressed, "has a wealth of knowledge earned by working her way up in the financial services sector and I know that her knowledge about the industry, and the historical context of the Virgin Islands was well thought through in the planning and writing of this book.”
He added, “As Virgin Islanders and residents, we can no longer be contented to have the expertise that is needed in the financial services sector be flown in and the earnings from the industry be flown out.”
Ms Hull related that there seemed to be a view that, because the financial services sector is shaky, monies should not be put into financial services. She felt it was a fallacy and error in thinking. "We cannot just sit and wait to die… we have had international pressure on this industry for the last 30 years and the VI has responded, whatever came at us from the IMF and the OECD and all the other international bodies, we have responded.”
“We brought the BVI Business Companies Act into place where we equalized the playing field between international companies and local companies so that no company that is incorporated in the VI pays a tax,” Ms Hull related.
“The reality is, a democratic (US) government is not very helpful to offshore, so we are fighting again, but fight we will because $190M of a $279M budget… I don’t know if we want to see what the VI would look like anytime soon if financial services disappears,” she said, adding “… those persons in the system now… have a responsibility to make sure that we raise up the next generation.”
Brief remarks also came from co-editors of the book, Messrs Jack Husbands and Ross Munro.
A selection, Greatest Love of All, was also done by Ms Hull’s daughter, Rikkiya.

Besides...you obviously do not understand what Dr. Smith's said in his report on the financial state of the territory. He said there was $51 million deficit which included $20 million in unpaid bills. Out of that there were $14 million in contracts and most of that was for petty contracts signed just before the last elections. Nowhere did he say we were broke. His concern was the way in which projects were done. They were overspent and made a mockery of the allocated budget.
No amount of spin will change the fact that the last administration was financially irresponsible.
Well now now now, look at this man's record. Myron is surely doing the damn thing, so much in just 10 months!

This and so much more while running a top law firm and top hospitality businesses in the BVI. How does he do it? Where was this man all the time? Imagine the list when his four years up. I can see now why certain bloggers seem to be exploding everytime this man's name is mentioned. In many eyes he was going to be a failure, some even said he won't be elected. Keep up the good works Myron and NDP and can't forget the workers that are behind the scenes working hard.
The only one I will give him is "Introducing locally published book on Financial Services in the Schools"..yea to give a work to an NDP supporter.
Myron is bad for this country and we the people will never waste our vote again…how long before 2016??? NOT LONG YALL
