Territorial spirit shines @ Long Look Christmas tree lighting
The evening’s highlight was the feature address by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), who delivered a message of hope and togetherness to his constituents.
Dr Wheatley in his presentation used the occasion to reflect on the meaning of Christmas, espousing “I’m so glad that the Father chose to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth. Jesus was the way, the truth, and the life. To show us the way. To save us from our sins. And show wayward hearts the path back to Jehovah,” he said, his words resonating deeply with the crowd.
The Premier also used the occasion to reminisce about Christmases past, filled with family gatherings, good food, and joyful music. “It is a time when we can share love one to another. And I think it is extremely important that we get together as a community at this time of year. And we exhibit the qualities of Christ,” he remarked.
‘Let’s give thanks’- Premier Wheatley
Acknowledging the challenges of the past year, Premier Wheatley encouraged gratitude and resilience, adding, “Let’s give God thanks, because it could be a lot worse for us.”
Excitement reached its peak with the countdown to the Christmas tree lighting, with children leading the audience in a spirited countdown, culminating in the illumination of the tree.
Performances from various groups followed, including the Church of God of Prophecy House of Restoration and the Long Look Gospel Sunday School with their renditions adding a spiritual depth to the evening, underscoring the themes of faith, hope, and community prevelant in the Territory.
The annual tree lighting ceremony at Long Look once again reinforced its role as a cherished tradition in the Virgin Islands, bringing people together in celebration of the season’s joys, with music, prayer, and fellowship.
The event also brought together schools, churches, and community organisations, and several civil society stakeholders, bolstering the fostering of a sense of unity and joy to usher in the 2024 festive season.
The tree lighting was spearheaded by Premier Wheatley, the representative for District 7.

Does a tree has to has a triangular pyramid shape to be recognized as a Christmas tree?
Of course not, but who ever controls the mind of the people also has control of the finance.
Long Look fools being fools, or are they?
Help us all Lord. Help us to recognized how blind are disconnected from your light of truth.
Drove through LL a few days ago to exit by Fine Foods anf ohhh my goodness, the sewage through the streets bubbling up out the ground from several different spots. Imagine people javing to skip through that mess every day. I would have preferred that fix before a christmas tree in $&@!
Anyway lett Nartalow be great. He probably use a different road
I am glad that I did mot leave my house to go the lightning of that tree. What a $&@! up looking tree. Who is responsible for this fiasco should be ashamed of themselves. There is no pride in what is done in the territory. Look at the roads every where looking so disgusting and unfinishex. Make Elton (UP) the decorative organizer. It will be done right and something to be proud of.. we need to stop embarrasing ourselves. Please don't drive tourists in through Long Look village to see that disaster.
Take thar $%^& down. It looks disgusting. Doing nothing would have been better than this.
