FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI – Controversial talk show host and 2023 political candidate, Rosemary Cindy Rosan has called for the removal of the term ‘Belonger’ from the local constitution. She said the term has led to the creation of two levels of citizenship in the territory, with the other being Virgin Islander.

While co-hosting the July 12, 2022, edition of "Da International Morning Braff" radio show on Tola Radio 100.5 FM, Rosan said two levels of citizenship, in addition to the local residency status, are fuelling deep divisions among the people of the territory.

“The problem is creating two levels of citizenship in the territory, which created to me two levels of humanity, to me, it goes that deep.”

“If you are deemed to belong to the Virgin Islands, you’re a Virgin Islander. If there are special things that Virgin Islanders with lineage should have, which every country does, outline it in the constitution,” she said.

Belongers are Virgin Islanders - Cindy Rosan

Rosan added that on the level of the constitution, VI citizenship should not be divided between Belongers and Virgin Islanders since, according to her, persons belonging to the VI are already Virgin Islanders.

She illustrated that Americans don’t say anything besides Americans when it comes to citizenship, and the VI should be the same with Virgin Islanders.

“The division even continues within Government offices when you have to fill out a form and they asking are you are Belonger or a Virgin Islander or a resident,” she added.

She said the confusion surrounding this status is creating and pushing deep divisions and something has to be done.  “We have to get it right, as we move into redoing our constitution.”

Special privileges for Virgin Islanders with lineage

Rosan is now advocating for the removal of the word Belonger from the Constitution and be replaced with just Virgin Islander, however, she is supporting special privileges for Virgin islanders with lineage.

“If you are deemed to belong to a the Virgin Islands, you should be considered a Virgin Islander. If you deemed to belong to a place, how you can tell me you are a Virgin Islander and I am a belonger?’ she questioned.

Should a Virgin Islander hold a Virgin Islands Passport?

What Passport does a "Belonger" hold?

Can Ms. Rosan answer those questions, and explain her response?

Mostly I hear …Afro-American/Black people/Colored folk calling each other Nigg@r wtf is up with that? Demand respect but don’t have any?? Lawdy the state we in.
        • afro (14/07/2022, 05:27) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
We call ourselves "Nigga" as sort of a protest response to the more offensive word (the one that ends in "er"). The problem is that Nigga sound almost the same and can cause confusion, especially when it is used by good friends who are Wyte.

We prefer to define ourselves instead of accepting the labels given to us by wicked people who call themselves "white", which most clearly are not. So instead of accepting the intentionally offensive labels of "Nigg*r" or "black" we use the term "Afro, or "African". I prefer Afro, it is easier to say. Afro-British sounds less ridiculous than African- British. But more importantly, these labels are ours by choice.

Her connection and inolvement in the latest pot stirring( leaked unfinishedvideo)leaves open questions about
her integrity motives and sincerity regarding the VI and its survival as we know it.

Each and every country has different levels of citizenship. It is called survivorship.
The real problem in the VI is immigration and its resulting current demographics. A majority population imported and installed with nothing to offer but human misery acvkmpanied with the prolific unbridled reproduction of their flawed dna.

What youth programs has she been involved with? Social programs? Anything assisting the elderly, kids, reforms etc.? Just constant ranting and flip flopping.

The only difference between a Belonger and Virgin Islander is that the Virgin Islander has a BVI passport and can get a UK Passport. The Belonger only gets a Belonger Card from the BVI; no passport!

If you become a belonger you can then apply for a U.K. passport.

How interesting, yes, USVI people are firstly Americans, and, their counterparts in the Dutch and French Caribbean islands are Dutch and French accordingly. Belongers and Virgin Islanders are British, which is why the UK Parliamentary Advisory Committee recommended Belongership in the Overseas Territories be discontinued. So, until such time as the BVI goes independent island born citizens are British.

This is the only place people migrate to and expect the rules to change for them. That's because they find that the leaders here are soft. Why do they not try that, for example in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda and see how fast they get on the nest vessel or air craft.

Cindy is onto something but she is not making a good case,, As for me I think every person who lives in the country for more than 30 yrs and are not under immigration control should be allow to vote. As a matter a fact no one should be in the country more than 30 yrs and still under immigration control ...

It is time to lay this issue to rest. Enough was already said about this issue to continue rambling on it.
Cindy Rosan, coming next general election if you compete for a seat as a political candidate,
especially in the 7th electorial district, the majority of the voters will not support you as their leader. If you run as an at large candidate, your vote count will also be too insufficiently too low. You are too selfishly politically unstable, rather than humble, in my honest opinion.

@ simple mind. You're absolutely correct, let them go labalabing at foolishness. They see us all as black, venen the ones that are mixed. They putting us in the same boat, whether we're from Grena, st. Lucia, don't matter. We need to focus on Unity and togetherness. Black people do not have any friends in on this planet, we hated by more than 90 percent of people, yet we are here fighting about who is belongers/ VI lander... Rubbish.

It’s a lil more complicated than you think, if I’m from another country and I apply for be longer and I receive it I cannot obtain a BVI passport or UK passport, I have to gain residency and then go and naturalize before I can apply for a passport, that’s my understanding of how it work,

Cindy's right, the term belonger has no place in the constitution.

It is offensive and makes constitutionally clear the BVI's attitude to the large body of residents who do so much for the BVI economy but do not belong.
