'Tears came to my eyes' when airplane landed – Premier on Taddy Bay reopening
The ceremony to mark the milestone event was held on the airport’s compound this morning Tuesday, November 22, 2021 on Virgin Gorda.
Airport reopening significant for sister islands - Premier
“Today, tears came in my eyes when I saw the plane landed because I know this one was God alone. Today is such a glorious day in the Virgin Islands. It is with great joy that we are here,” Premier Fahie said during his emotional speech.
He explained that the reopening was important for the sister island and the rest of the territory.
“What has been created is more opportunity for the people of Virgin Gorda, more jobs for the people of Virgin Gorda, more money in your pocket to be able to feed your family. People coming from Anguilla, St. Martin, Puerto Rico wherever and landing.”
The territory’s leader said already there is a booking for a commercial flight.
“The first flight is a commercial flight is already scheduled I think for the 17th of December, unless they changed the date, I think it's Cape Air, landing here with passengers and many more flights to come from many more airlines,” Hon Fahie said.
He added, “Why have we done this? it is not for the show and don’t let anyone fool you. I like my ceremonies because when they criticize you, you hear a lot of laughter, when they criticized the government you hear laughter, so if they are going to take care of the laughter we are going to publicize the joy of God."
"It’s not about picture taking, but about being purpose-driven and those who work with me know when you tell me you can’t, only then we pushing ahead,” Hon Fahie said.
Gov't Minister commend move
Meanwhile, several other ministers also commended the undertaking such as Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Hon Kye M. Rymer (R4), Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon Shereen D. Flax-CharlesHon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL), and Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9).
“This reopening here is an incredible deal because it means a lot to the island of Virgin Gorda,” Hon Wheatley said.
He added, “Persons who have medical issues who would have to go to Tortola, imagine three minutes to half an hour on a boat, so this could possibly save a life! Or if you have to go to St. Thomas, or it’s about half an hour to Puerto Rico. That is significant. So not only are we going to get tourists in, but persons can travel for medical reasons you too would have another option.”
To mark the occasion, there were performances from the Bregado Flax Educational Center among others, in addition to a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

conjunction "and" to start a sentence is grammatically incorrect.
The prescription of the U.K loan guarantee is a recipe for economic disaster. It will result in layoff of Public Servants and closure of many business as well as criminal activities. If we want to see all the amenities and services provide for the Territory then we will have to get a larger budget that will result in higher taxation. The B.V.I is not to be compared with the U.S.V.I because the Federal Government of the United States contribution to that Territory is tremendous. Time will tell.
That said, indeed, the question is whether the BVIs can sustain itself financially should it go independent. I say that's a dubious proposition based on the generally poor performance of govt over the years (hospital, Pier Park, airline, Prospect Reef) as well as all the bulk drug running. We also have a dysfunctional system inasmuch as many BVI employers collect payroll and social security taxes and don't forward them.
