Teacher allegedly gives student Pine Sol to gargle
According to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, the cleaning agent was identified as Pine Sol.
Reports are that some teachers and an official attached to the school were aware of the incident but failed to report it to the Principal or Ministry officials.
The shocking allegations; however, were related at a Parent Teachers Association (PTA) meeting this week.
The teacher has since been “suspended”, according to reports reaching our newsroom.
When contacted, the school’s principal Ms Tonya M. Bertie-Phillip declined to comment.
Education Ministry taking matter 'very seriously'
Meanwhile, Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has been made aware of the incident.
“I will be issuing a statement on it shortly,” Hon Wheatley said.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has since said "it is aware of the allegation concerning a teacher, which is currently being circulated via social media and that this matter is being taken very seriously.
"The health and safety of our teachers and students remain a top priority and therefore all necessary measures are being adopted to investigate this matter promptly."
Pine Sol has always been considered to be low in toxicity but recent studies have found it may contain chemicals that are known to cause hormone disruption, pregnancy complications, birth defects, and cancer, and can aggravate allergies.

The Pine Sol label CLEARLY STATES to call poison control or your medical doctor if the solution comes into contact with eyes and skin.

She needs to face the long arm of the law. That is a clear case of child abuse/endangering a minor!!
There are less serious measures this teacher could have used to discipline but she diluted pine sol as a gargle. The mere fact she diluted this agent in her mind it could cause harm to that child. Pre-meditated!
Look, as a parent I felt this and luckily for this teacher it was not my child. Now please go consider the foolishness you wrote trying to attack the child's parent. Yes children learn things at home from friends, tvs etc. Teachers cursed words infront of students too and say all manner of evil to them so just hush for goodness sake.

Honestly speaking we are different in culture and behaviour character and core values as evidenced by crime statistics i" updeislun" and the BVI. The daycare establishment was never publicly identified nor was the teacher nor was the owner of the daycare . It is rumored that the teacher,an expat continued her tenure uninterrupted. Unsuspecting parents enrolled their toddlers and life goes on. So why now all the brouhaha
Seens to me that this casual and non attention would give license to other teachers as in this case. Why the double standard.
.The lack of consistent enforcement of rules ,laws and regulations in the BVI creates these kinds of unfortunate results .
