Tarrus Riley leaves VG crowd wanting more
This was following the opening ceremony for the 2015 Virgin Gorda Easter Festival in honour of Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9) last evening April 4, 2015.
Though no stranger to the Virgin Islands, having performed on Tortola in December 2014, it was Tarrus Riley’s first time in Virgin Gorda and he made it a visit to remember.
Earlier in the night the local bands held their own and entertained the gradually growing crowd at the Hon Ralph T. O'Neal Festiville.
Virgin Gorda’s very own Final Faze did a stellar job in performing a number of hits in various genres including reggae and contemporary ballads.
Following the conclusion of Final Faze, Showtime Band took to the stage and performed a number of their original pieces plus a number of covers of contemporary love songs such as those by Sam Smith and Daft Punk and also Rude by Magic with its popular and catchy refrain ‘Marry that Girl.’
Tarrus Riley came on to the stage at around 1:30 am with hits such as Give Thanks for Life, Karma, Sorry not Good Enough and many others, including his popular rendition of Michael Jackson’s Human Nature. He also performed his popular tunes Good Girl Gone Bad and She's Royal.
The reaction from the crowd was awesome as he asked if they were ready to go home and whether he could leave the stage to both of which they responded with a resounding no.
“All of the girls who dark and lovely scream. All of the girls who nah bleach dem skin scream,” he said. And scream they did.
Then he went on to perform his highly popular One Drop to which the crown sang along in unison. Then suddenly, after one hour of performing, he said he was done.
But the reaction from the crowd caused him to do three more songs, including a tune called Cool me Down. He said it was a brand new tune, so new it didn't have “a riddim.” He finally left the stage for the night at around 2:45 am on April 5, 2015.
