ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Chairman of the Festival and Fairs Committee Marvin Blyden, said he is pleased with the outcome of the 2012 festival celebrations and although everything did not go to plan at times, the target was met.

During an exclusive interview with Mr. Blyden, he said that with the help of his well able committee, they were able to accomplish everything that they set out to do, and despite some challenging issues, all in all everything went as they expected . “Everything was on target.”

“We went through the tramps without anything major happening, the only disappointment throughout the festival was that Movado wasn’t able to show up at Carrot Bay.” He added that it was a bit tough, but they had to get everything on track and got through with the best of their ability.

According to Mr. Blyden, the committee has already begun, planning for next year’s event.

“We right now are continuing with our fund raisers. We try to see if we could continue new ideas and prepare for next year’s festival.”

Mr. Blyden thanks everyone who participated in the festivities and asks for their continued support.

Mr. Blyden can you please explain the word satisfied I do not understand. The festival parade was pretty, but the entire festival activities need to go back to the drawing board.

Why can't you people give him thanks for trying to make sure the festival activities were carried out without a hitch. I'm no fan of festival, but from what I read Mr. Blyden tried his best to make sure the activities were in order and put things in place when they won't. There is always room for improvements.

MB we live in a land were we want everything and appreciate nothing. Putting on a 15 day production with limited funding could not of been an easy task. Please keep your head up amongst all the negativity.

For the late start and what these guys were up against, I think Festival was good. All that's killing our activities is that everything has become about money. You have a total of almost 10 paying nights between Town, East and CBay fests. What do you think will happen? People will save their money for the night they think is best. At first, it seemed Movado would be the big big night at Cbay then that wasn't the case so then it became Vegas in East and many people attended. Kassav in town was also good. But we are not used to paying $20 to go village. Get some good stuff going and entice people to go to the village especially weekends. They also need to consider cutting out east end and let town go for a longer time, a week just not enough. good job for a committee that got a late start and hope they fundraise from now til next year to offset costs and not having to depend on government or the people at the gate with those high prices. $5-$10 dollars at the gate to offset costs for major international performers is fine, but $20.00 at the door, $7 per mix drink in those tiny glasses. $20-$25 for a plate of whelks? $4-$5 for a coney island ride? How many nights you think a man and woman can go out with eachother and or their entire family at that cost? with school opening soon and everything sky high? Some might disagree with me but I believe on the weekend before festival, if it's free with half-decent entertainment, it will be packed as there would be nowhere else to go.

the Road tTown village needs to go back to opening on the Monday. Put the gospel night on Monday if need be>. if the village is empty for so many nights why have we gone to starting on the Thursday. Thats 4 extra days. Some of you may not agree but its a suggestion that will save money and have fewer days but with quality entertainment.
