Tamara Phillip bounces back from concussion with a bang!
Down three early in the second half, Central Arizona rolled off 13 straight points and never looked back in a comfortable victory. They also took their season record to 6-0.
Guard Phillip had also been in top form during Wednesday’s 64-47 win over Eastern Arizona, when no less than four players scored in double figures. Phillip finished with 12 points, six rebounds and six steals as the fourth ranked Vaqueras remained unbeaten on the season.
Brea Townsend finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, September Offutt also posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Katrina Salinas had 13 points, five assists and four steals for CAC.
The Vaqueras took a 34-17 lead at halftime and held off Eastern Arizona (4-8, 1-4) in the second half.
“It was a little sloppy at times, but I’m glad we got out of it without an injury and with a win,” Central Arizona coach Denise Cardenas said.
Katrina Ottesen (16.2 points), Katrina Salinas (14.4) and Tamara Phillip (14.0) are the leading scorers for the Vaqueras.In last Wednesday’s game at Scottsdale Community College, Tafara Phillip stepped up to the plate in the absence of her sister and as the Vaqueras recorded a 67-46 victory over the Fighting Artichokes.
Tafara scored 4 points along with 13 rebounds.“We started off really strong,” said Central Arizona coach Denise Cardenas, whose team took a 45-21 lead at halftime and scored the first 10 points of the second half to increase its advantage to 34 at 55-21.
Scottsdale then chipped away at its deficit, reducing the final margin to 21 points.
