ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- As expected, thousands of persons flocked Festival Grounds last night, June 15, 2019 to catch the live performance of Jamaican reggae sensation Mark Anthony Myrie aka ‘Buju Banton’ during his Long Walk to Freedom Concert.

Notably in attendance was Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), along with a number of his elected Members of Government that included Deputy Premier and Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Carvin Malone, Junior Minister for Tourism Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL)and Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development Hon Sharie B. De Castro (AL).

During his one and a half hour performance, Buju Banton appealed to the people of the Virgin Islands to know the worth of "Natures Little Secrets".

"Take care of this island paradise of yours and don't let anyone take it from you," Buju stated as he proceeded to sing, "where thou standeth is holy ground...remember that."

Meanwhile, the show started shortly after 6:00pm with recorded music but as the crowd quickly thickened, the Virgin Islands’ very own Darius Semper aka ‘Shine Eye’, got the memorable opportunity to be the opening act of the night. He was followed by Jason A. Frett aka ‘Ritical’ and Joyce Searles aka ‘Sista Joyce’.

It was then time for the international artists to take to the stage, including Delyno Brown aka ‘Pressure’, Calvin G. Scott aka ‘Cocoa Tea’, Mikayla Simpson aka ‘Koffee’ and Clifton George Bailey III aka ‘Capleton’.

Buju takes the stage by popular demand

In between acts, deejays Push Pop, Millennium King and Burtram provided entertainment but once the crowd felt it was time for Buju Banton to make an appearance no amount of deejaying could have satisfied their thirst.

The mammoth crowd started clapping, demanding that Buju Banton take then stage.

Buju did not disappoint as he showed up at around 1:00am and powerfully entertained the crowd hits after hits for two and a half hours.

The attendance is no doubt one of the largest seen for any live concert in the Virgin Islands. The show attracted persons from all parts of the Caribbean, the US Virgin Islands, United States and as far as Europe.

The Long Walk to Freedom Concert was promoted by KT Productions in collaboration with Pumpstation Productions, Westline Entertainment and Xclusive Levels.

  • Tickets on the right/ drinks left who feel like moving? (16/06/2019, 18:47) Like (12) Dislike (2) Reply
Production Wize! On point! Artist doing they’re thing etc stage related on point. Off the stage the service sucks. Just about those I’ve had a conversation with both regulars/ VIP and Ultra VIP would agree that the on the ground service sucks. Killer mood (lack of getting drinks) - More than half the people felt no vibes even after being forced by the artist on stage, not because the artistes are boring for their not, but simply because no drinks to build up the vibes/ get in the mood.

I mean to leaving one side to go to a tiny tent to only want over an hour not before losing our voices trying to get the bartenders attention only to walk back to the left to meet another huge line and another 38mins to get to the bar to used the tickets. The selection of the wins and spirits rite way provided was weak. The bar lose big last night.

Huge discourage (1) willing to walk around to get tickets (2) only to spend 1 hour in the line to find out its $20.00 per mix drink. The production of the show itself was on point but someone within the camp got a bit greedy and selfishly. The hired company for the VIP/ VIP ultra sections sucks as welled!

Ya ya ya I know it’s the 1st the show of this size and that’s why I’d like them to be better next time around. Have different teams who’s fully responsible only for that their task is. With this experience I believe anyone who’s willing to host an event will now have a bigger idea on how to do things and do it right.

BIG UP KT Productions and pumpstaion and whoever else was involved.

Paradise yes but the immigrations need to do their job and check in the ghetto because by being in there a few times. I realize that this is where all the illegal expats hang out mostly those without a work permit. Everyone should be check. Too much ppl taking advantage of our Natie’s little secret.

What kind of stupid statement is that. Isn’t the BVI an Island? Isn’t it surrounded by water?
Bring those Americans and see if we would get such a big turnout. Stop the hatred

The entrance was very well organized. The show started close to time...Two negatives. 1/ Too many band changes...Which made the DJs The best and most enjoyable part of the show... 2/:The selling of drinks the failure to trust people cost the bar to lose thousands in drink sales, for drink go east for ticket then go west for your drink. Nonsense. I didn't even move all night. I put 90 dollars in my wallet to spend on drinks brought all back home.. I guess next time they will know better...pulling off this show was great. Few stuff to learn for next time.. I'm sure they know what they are.

I haven't heard you all mention about International Artist "REVELATION" performing and he was a better performer than a number of them. How could you all forget him and mentioned all the others and left him out?
I enjoyed his music so much and I know a number of persons did as well. He was really good. Big him up too, he's one of us.
