Strong field expected for NACAC 10K 2nd Leg!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – 2011 Women’s winner Ruth Ann David is expected to be severely tested by Jaisa Sanchez, who won the first leg of the NACAC 10K Series, when the 2nd leg is hosted by the BVIAA on Saturday, October 6, 2012.

David, from St. Thomas, will be seeking to better the time she ran in winning last year's race and claim the prize money as well as a trip to Antigua for the third leg on October 28, 2012.

Sanchez of the Dominican Republic, who won the first leg in Santo where only local runners took part, topped the 23 competitors in 46 minutes and 13 seconds. Deimi Padilia was second in 46:44, while Jordania Diaz finished third in 46:47. Saranyi Rodriquez 46:53 and Johanna de Jesus rounded off the top five in 47:24.

Jose Rubiera was the first of the 158 male participants to cross the finish line in 37 minutes and 45 seconds. Toribio Rosa Pichado took second in 38:06 and Jesus Sanchez, third in 38.06.10. Jesus Ramirez 38:19.33 and Francisco Vasquez 38:19.38 completed the top five finishers.

At the 2011 race Trinidad and Tobago's Matthew Hagley denied the U.S. Virgin Islands duo of Juan Robles and Ruth Ann David sweeping the second leg, when he won the men’s race in a time of 34.21. Robles finished 2nd in 34.49 with Zebalon McLean 3rd in 41.27.

McLean led home a group of local runners including Steve Asson, Emrol Amsterdam and Adrian Dale. Meriel Steadman was the first local lady to cross the line in 40.47 for a 4th place finish. She was followed by Rachel MacDonald and a host of other ladies including Clare-Louise Whiley, Anne Monroe, Sally Blackmore, Ni Made Oniasih, Philomena Robertson and Kay Reddy, This year David will be joined by male counterpart Shane Deganes.

 David, who ran 40 minutes even last year, will also be tested by Maria Mays

The male and female winners from Saturday's race on Tortola will earn a NACAC trip to Antigua and Barbuda for the third leg on October 21, 2012.

The prize structure will be evenly distributed among male and female participants with both winners collecting US$500. Second place finishers will earn US$400 with those placing third taking home US$325. Fourth place is worth US$275 and fifth position US$250.
