WINDY HILL, Tortola, VI- Overlooking the magnificent Cane Garden Bay beach and with a steady sea breeze coming in, thus no need for air-conditioned units, the newly opened Stoutt’s Look Out at Windy Hill is really one of the ‘coolest’ places to hangout.

The restaurant and bar is strategically perched at the Carrot Bay/Cane Garden Bay junction and passersby simply cannot miss the red, gold and green structure that offers a breezy and relaxed atmosphere and, as one person put it, a million-dollar view!

Persons from all walks of life and different countries made their way to the opening of the business last evening, June 21, 2013. Some were eager to satisfy their curiosity, others to mingle with the crowd while some just wanted to have a comfortable drink after a hard week’s work. From all indications, it seems all desired objectives were achieved and persons will be making Stoutt’s Look Out a regular stop.

Among those present at the opening were Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office, David D. Archer who was the Master of Ceremonies; Preston Stoutt; Claude Skelton Cline; and attorney at law Mary Lou Creque.

Carrot Bay resident Vernal Braithwaite described the location for the restaurant and bar as great. “The place is always cool and the view is just beautiful. This is what we needed all the time. After a hard day’s or week’s work, this is the place to be,” Mr Braithwaite told Virgin islands News Online before returning to his chat with some of his friends.

Robert, who said his company supplied the paint for the business place, said the establishment was “wonderful, the atmosphere, the view, the size, location, everything is just beautiful.”

Seeming to be very relaxed and wearing a bright smile, Judith was fascinated with the view that the business place offers. “It is wonderful, the colour [of the building] is eye-catching.”

According to Andre ‘Shadow’ Dawson, who is a relative of the business owner Prince A. Stoutt and considers himself the multi-tasker and assistant to Mr Stoutt, the aim is to keep “this place at a high standard. Customer service is going to be top class and customers are going to get a great view, great service, and it’s just good fellowship at the Look Out… As you can see we have a million dollar view. I believe this is second to none on this island.”

Mr Dawson also said he was pleased with the turnout for the opening and noted that there will be additional service and entertainment over time. “Right now we are just doing the bar with small meals but later on, hopefully into the next tourist season, we will be doing lunch and moving to dinner also. We are going to put in cable soon. On days when cruise ships are in, the bar will be opened early in the mornings but usually around noon on regular days and will go into the evenings. There will be a DJ on weekends too.” That DJ will be no other than Mr Dawson himself who said persons would be able to enjoy a variety of music.

Asked about the name, Stout’s Look Out, Mr Dawson said Prince Alfred Stoutt is the son of the late Prince McDonald Stoutt, who was a legislator and “one of the big names in the BVI so he strongly felt that the name should stand out in the business, and the fact that we have this great look out I guess it was not that hard to put the name together.

We toasted a drink or two this past week ( 2/16 thru 2/22) in honor of Prince A Stoutt. Staying at Bannakeet/Heritage Inn made it very convenient for us to stop in, and stop in we did. The BBC drink is to live for...... The chicken wings were wonderful. The View outstanding. To all who need a bit of a rest stop or more Stoutt's can be that memorable stop.

Looks like a very nice place and a great idea. I intend to visit next time on island. Only suggestion, with the "DJ nights", keep in mind, sound travels on the wind, especially from that elevation. Do be considerate of the neighbors!
