ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Christian Council (BVICC), which regards itself as the watchdog of the nation and the conscience of the community, has condemned the recent increase in gun violence and “barbaric acts” in the Virgin Islands and has called for the Virgin Islands to turn to God.

The Council in a press release on April 22, 2021, said it stands strong upon the word of God which tells us in John 15:12 … ‘Love one another…’

National disgrace

It said quite recently there has been an increase in gun violence in the territory and it is heartless, senseless and slowly becoming “a national disgrace to our beautiful Virgin Islands where we should be maintaining BVI Love.”

The BVI Christian Council also offered condolences to the family of Catherine Pickering, who died on April 19, 2021, after she was shot during a robbery in Paraquita Bay the night before.

“May they find comfort and strength in this time of bereavement.

“We, as the “Watchdog of our Territory and the Conscience of the Community” condemn, in the strongest way possible, all forms of violence and barbaric acts which is becoming a mental health crisis and this therefore, demands a proactive effort to address root causes.”

Turn to God!

The Council said its plea to the citizens of “these beautiful Virgin Islands is to stop the crime and turn to God.

“We pray that Almighty God brings healing to our land as we call upon the Righteous Intercessors to arise in prayer and fasting for our land. May the God of Peace rule over these beautiful Virgin Islands.”

    This is great that the council finally came forward asking persons to pray for our country, but what took you all so long???.. only God can intervene on our behalf and stop all of this violence, so yes we all need to pray continuously..Prayer connects us to God and it changes things.. His Word says that if we repent of our sins, He Will Heal the land.. this is what we need to do.. we are supposed to be a “Christian Society”; somehow with all that’s happening this phrase sounds distant.. we the children of God also need to rise up and March in the streets condemning this violence..

    I think it was in 1742 when Quaker, Governor John Pickering was asked by the king of England to raise a militia in the Virgin Islands he respectfully refused claiming that it was against his religion to bear arms. The treatment that was meted out to him was horrific he was bound and drawn behind a horse from Fat Hogs Bay to Road Town where he was subjected to the most infradig and relieved of his title. Throughout the years the population seem to have added insult to injury by constantly taking advantage of the Pickering lineage and would always cut down anyone that aspired to any position of leadership. Anything Pickering seemed to be taboo. Pickering's Old Plantation became Greenland and even the burial places of the Quaker ministers from England and Pennsylvania Thomas Chaulkley, John Cadwallader and John Estaugh have been bulldozed and sold to clueless political cronies to erect houses. I often wonder what will history describe our esteemed political leaders who were the architects of this folly as. One of our most sacred historic ruins being trampled under foot like pearls to pigs. Is it any wonder that we are being served a cup of the wine of the wrath of God's indignation. Before we jump up and down whooping, hollering and snorting let us do the right and sensible thing or stop with the senseless charade. God cannot be mocked. Someone has certainly proven that they are nothing more than an empty kerosene pan.

    Just in case you didn't know Christianity is a lie . We were colonize and brutally forced to believe in this false truth of a man coming to save the world one day . How much more decades do we have to wait . How much more of our people are going to die thinking they are going somewhere ?     Violent crimes that have upsurged lately in tbe B.V.I will not bigly decrease unil we first reject Satan's way, and accept God leading. Only then will crimes in the B.V.I dramaticully reduce to a low level. The way of the transgressor is hard. Sin transgresses against God's law of love. God is love. Only love has the power to defeat crimes totally.
