Stitchie’s Barbeque Pit reopens in RT
Speaking to this news site on his lengthy closure, measuring about seven months, Freeman said, “After they started the road I wouldn’t do nothing because there was too much dust.”
He noted that while he received a letter informing of the impending road works, he had no warning about the severity of the dust as a result of the works. Stitchie’s Barbeque Pit is located in the parking lot opposite Digicel on Water Front Drive.
However, now that he is back in business he is hoping for the support of the customers who patronised his business over the months before the closure. He said that he plans to offer more than just eats, as he is awaiting a liquor licence to be able to sell alcohol on his premises.
“I am not selling any liquor right now. I am waiting on the liquor licence and the next sitting of the court for liquor licences is in December 2015. So for now I will sell juices and soda,” said Freeman.
He said that following the closure, it naturally took him some time to get his equipment and other material cleaned up and prepared for business.
“And then after that I had to get everything back together. It took a time to get everything back in shape."
He said that while the main attraction will continue to be barbequed chicken and pork ribs, he has many more delicacies in store for patrons. “But we also have ox tail, mutton, salt fish, turkey wings, stew pork, conch, fish, lobster and burgers [among others],” he said.
According to the businessman, he is opening from “12 to 12” each day and he hopes that with these hours he will be able to rebuild his customer base and bring persons to the table to partake in the delicacies that he has to offer.
“Sometimes I go later depending on the situation,” he said.
The entrepreneur is now waiting on a chef to come in from Jamaica who will do jerk chicken and also roasted pig.
Thanks to the Minister
Freeman said that he has to express thanks to the Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) for his efforts to fix the road and beautify the community.
He said that the Minister worked with him with regards getting the project completed so that the business could thrive again.
