ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Mecurial Meriel Steadman lowered the course record for the third run on the trot and Adam Cole went sub 12 minutes for the first time to also shatter the record at the latest race in the Tortola leg of the 2011 H. Lavity Stoutt Community College-Highland Spring Race Series, which was held on Saturday October 15, at the Paraquita Bay Campus.

For many, race number three may have very well secured the overall winning position, as the top three will be considered in the final standings. Khiry Creque, in his fastest time of 11:29.06 at HLSCC races, secured his third victory, with 2010 defending champ Raheem Taylor close on his heels. Not too far behind was Meriel Steadman, again breaking the record she established for the third successive race with a time of 12:13.02. Following with impressive runs were Under-15 athletes Tarika Moses and Lakeisha Warner.

In similar fashion, Adam Cole again broke the Community Partner Men’s record, improving his time by more than 30 seconds and dipping under the 12-minute barrier for the first time with 11:50.12. Cole and his team continue to lead this division with three wins so far.

In the Service Club arena, it was a close fight and a strong push for victory with Rotaract and Rotary of Tortola being the front runners. Unfortunately, a margin of three points would leave Rotaract settling for second place. Rotary of Road Town was third, Rotary Sunrise of Road Town, fourth, and in their 2011 debut, Team Zonta of the Zonta Club of Tortola, fifth.

In the Secondary Schools Division, St. Georges came in ahead of Cedar. To secure the overall title, St. Georges will have to make sure it gives another strong showing in the final competitive race on Saturday November 26. For Primary Schools, Willard Wheatley stirred up things with an outstanding win. Current standings show Althea Scatliffe leading by one point over Willard Wheatley, which in turn is one point ahead of Cedar, leaving the overall title up for grabs

One-miler Derek Pettigrew continues to lead the Under-Nine Boys, with Dylan Mathavious not too far behind. For the Girls Under-Nine, Alisha Hayde and Gabrielle Jermin continue to lead the way.
