The introduction was done on Wednesday April 2, 2014 by Commissioner of Police (CoP) David Morris, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) Mr Alwyn James and supported by the officer in charge of Virgin Gorda Chief Inspector of Police (CIoP) Dennis Jones and other key players of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Both officers told residents of their commitment to serve in the volunteer position and at the same time wanted the same level of commitment from residents.

The situation and circumstances surrounding the effective execution of the neighbourhood community expectations of Officer Stay was said to be a unique one. Residents heard of his responsibilities stretching to the far reaches of the many resorts and nearby islands which would require him doing much travelling via sea.

To this end and to further enhance the policing activities CoP Morris told resident that the force had recently purchased two new engines to be used on two small vessels.

Residents were also charged not to be surprised or feel intimidated as the officers will be engaged in door-to-door data collection activities in a bid to have the force and the consultative committees become aware of some of the most prominent issues affecting residents.

Despite the fact that the rate of crime in Virgin Gorda is significantly low especially in the North Sound area, the RVIPF police station not being staffed with an officer for some time now has been noted by CoP Morris. He said the neighbourhood officer’s frequent presence in the area will also serve to fill a small space in that void.
