ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and stay in preparedness mode even as the latest weather threat, Tropical Storm Karen, has moved on from the territory.

"When I reflect on the images of potential flooding that we were expected to experience in Karen’s track, I thank God for the commitment and preparatory work carried out by many of our Government agencies to help mitigate impact on the lives and property of those who are in the hot spot areas," Hon Fahie said in a media statement today, September 25, 2019.

Monitor Advisories - Premier

"We must continue to stay in preparedness mode. We must continue to monitor the advisories provided by the Department of Disaster Management so that we are able to plan ahead. Individually and collectively, we must continue to pray, petition and believe God for divine favour," he warned the public as the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season continues.

The Premier noted that he is also aware that some areas are without electricity and assured that the team at the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) advised that areas which present hazardous conditions will remain off until conditions are safe for the crew to address them.

General Manager of the BVIEC, Mr Leroy A. E. Abraham told our newsroom that the distribution network only sustained minor damages as a result of the passage of Tropical Storm Karen.

"At this time only isolated customers territory-wide with electricity supply issues are being attended to," Mr Abraham said.

"As you return to work and school today, please continue to be the vigilant citizens that you have shown yourselves to be so far this season. We are in the peak of what forecasters predicted from early would be an active Atlantic Hurricane Season," Premier Fahie noted in his public statement.

Take caution on roadways - Hon Rymer

Meanwhile, Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), in a media statement today, said essential workers will continue to clear debris on the roadways and make conditions safe.

"If there is one thing I can say about my team at the Ministry and Departments, they know that the public depends on us to make things as normal as possible for them. That is why I am asking motorists to drive with extreme caution as the team continue to do their duties out on the road."

He warned motorists to be mindful that the roads are very saturated at this time. "We want to ensure that everyone remains safe."

The Minister reiterated that safety remains the number one priority and that "Now is the time to exercise patience and drive with caution to ensure the protection of yourselves, your passengers and the crews who are working hard for you."

What blunder. Better to be safe than sorry. You don’t speak for the public . At least a decision was made that had the safety of the public in mind

Dear Mr Premier, I know this is off the topic, but can you please look into the 3 telecom providers. The internet really sucks and we are paying too much money for bad service. Data is a mess. WiFi is a mess. Can’t even open my favourite website VINO properly.

Mr. Premier, when you address the people of the Virgin Islands please do not include your personal religious beliefs . As head of our country “the almighty “ “god” “prayer “ has no place in politics. Many who voted for you do not share your religious beliefs and what you personal religious beliefs are should not be included in public addresses.
