'Stage is set' for Christmas in July event this weekend!- BVTB’s Tommy Dardet
“We're so excited, all the Puerto Ricans are coming in. I just came in on a boat this morning. I did Immigration and Customs, they opened for us an additional spot over at Pussers… it was smooth, nice and great,” BVI Tourist Board Representative in Puerto Rico Tommy Dardet told reporters today, July 21, 2023.
Mr Dardet added, “And now everybody's coming out, the sea is great, it's a very good sea, there's very, very little swell. So I expect people to be coming in today and tomorrow on the boats, plus other people flying in and renting boats.”
He added that others will also be renting places to stay, including hotels and villas, and that authorities appear ready to handle the influx of visitors.
Stage is set!
According to Mr Dardet, the plan this year is to reduce the amount of garbage during the event.
“At Pond Bay in Virgin Gorda, the stage is set, the generator, the sound system, the tents for the beverages.."
He said instead of glasses, tumblers will be sold and the proceeds given to Beyond the Reef.
“We're selling them on the beach so that every time you buy that cup, part of the proceeds go to Beyond the Reef.
Mr Dardet said beverages will be free as long persons buy that cup which can be refilled and can also be taken away as a souvenir of the party,” he said.
Puerto Rican & VI acts to entertain the crowd
Regarding musical entertainment, three bands will entertain the crowds, including one local VI band and two bands from Puerto Rico are flying in to entertain the crowds on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Christmas in July is an annual event in the VI where boaters from Puerto Rico and other nearby areas unite in the islands for a week of festivities. It is a tradition that started in 2007 and has grown to attract thousands of visitors each year.

Our Puerto Rican boost the BVI economy every year for this event. They purchase food, fuel, rentals and the list goes on.
