ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Social Security Board (SSB) has announced it has begun the applicant selection process for prospective homeowners of the Joe’s Hill Manor Estate.

According to SSB on its website on August 23, 2022, prospective homeowners will be selected via “The Lottery Draw” process. It also said the selected homeowners will have 60 days to finalise their mortgage and inform the Social Security Board accordingly.

The Social Security Board also encouraged all applicants to familiarise themselves with the steps as the selection process continues.

The selection process

It said each applicant will receive a verification form via e-mail. The completed form should be returned within 5 days of acknowledged receipt. Confirmed Applicants will be required to attend the Joe’s Hill Manor Estate Homeowners Workshop.

Verified applicants, according to SSB, will be invited to view the home for which they applied.

“Verified applicants will seek financial preapproval from their bank of choice to fund their respective home,” SSB stated.

It also said if persons have submitted an application for a home and have not yet been contacted, they should call 852-7805 or 852-7827.

Joe’s Hill Manor Estate

The Joe’s Hill Manor Estate is a housing community of 25 buildings: comprising of fifty-two residential units and one commercial space.

The development of the estate marks the beginning of the Social Security Board’s “First-time Homeowners Programme”.

The buildings are strategically constructed on seven acres of hillside with views of commercial Road Town and the south coast Harbour.

Hear me please. Colour yup @$#. You have nothing good to say about anything that goes on here. We know who you are now.. since nothing here pleases you, please vacate your space that someone else could get the privilege you didn't deserve.
Do you think it's the old craft alive?
Keep your thoughts for when you get back home,, though by the time you land back home you will be killed for they are still waiting for your return. Remember they loaned you money to come here and you haven't sent back one penny..bye bye bye, and good riddance.
        Best of luck.

Every eligible workers were required to pay into the Social Security Scheme. Many that worked no money were paid in for them, but were held back. The Social Security money is public money, but only the rich, and whoever is chosen will benefit.
This type of political behaviour is one of many reasons why things are the way they are in the BVI.
No wonder we are now under the UK pressure.
How can crimes be lowered when some crimes are not classified as crimes? Tell us, if you are able?
The CoI probed into BVI politicians mismanagement of our (the people) finances was truly necessary exercise.
Who is to be blamed? As Bob Marley said, "Who the cap fit, let them wear it.

At first I thought This was to help the low income first time home owners. Also thought it was monthly payments to the SSB. Not knowing u have to go apply for loan from the bank. Well it’s best ppl apply and build what their heart desire. U ppl are ridiculous!!!!
      • Minimum wage need not apply.. (25/08/2022, 06:05) Like (5) Dislike (0) Reply
This is why minimum wages need raising to $11.00 per HR, So poor people can live and to give poor people a chance of owning something.. Or, We will continue to have the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
        • minimum wage (26/08/2022, 09:26) Like (2) Dislike (0) Reply
Even if the minimum wage is raised to $11 per hr, that would not make you qualify for a loan to buy one of the homes as that salary is still too low unfortunately.

The then government stated they are for low income individuals. Social security please keep it as low income house. If you dont please repay the public all their monies that was collected. You must do what is right. Low income people will not get big loans so do the right thing. All of you know low income people will have serious challenges with mortgages 30 years to pay back hopefully 150 to 200,000.00 loans I hope. You should not be looking to profit big from off the homes it's an investment to help the helpless not the rich and famous. Mark you like old people say time longer than twine. What you don't like done give. You have many struggling families in this territory.

Do the right thing. Please let the public know who get these houses. Don't hide the rich names.

All I know is that based on banking maths, a low income person on $6.00 to $10-$12.00 an hour can't afford to repay a $400,000.00 mortgage. We shall see what the deal is
  • Unaffordable homes (24/08/2022, 20:04) Like (28) Dislike (1) Reply
These homes start at $300,000. You're asking persons who may not have qualified to get a mortgage to STILL go to the bank to try to obtain this money which they WILL be turned down for.

Think about it, if they could of qualified on their own they would have already owned land and placed a home on it. This project is a waste. Not to mention who really going to buy a 1 bedroom home for $300,000 that is situated RIGHT next to other people.

This project was suppose to ASSIST persons who earn a salary of approximately $2000 a month to be a 1st time homeowner. What was 1st advertised back in 2017 and what is being told now is conflicting.

$326,923.07 - break even cost (17,000,000 contractor cost/52 units). Low income persons can’t afford these houses. Please note letters are being sent out and the units have prices according to where they are located on the property.

Any time low income people don't get these building we are going to take the streets. Worthless is not cool. People cant get money from bank. Social security need to have a plan B to help those people. 60 days to get the loan the 61 day plan B must be a proposal to the customer. People must have a second chance to acquire the property. You must be the lender for you borrow our money to build them. Give people a chance you are the landlord now. Time to face the music and get the ball rolling do not give these houses to the rich. Work with the poor and needy infact you know what persons salary looks like for you have the record so you can't pretend you don't know. Do what is right this project was designed for low income people you cant expect to get back all the money overnight.

A one bedroom home there is around $275,000 and a two bedroom is around $385,000. WTF!!! These people are out of touch with reality with all the uncertainties of this world. People can eat bread n cheese everyday and still not be able to pay off for these houses. I was disappointed to learn that's the cost of those houses which were designed to assist First Time Home Owners. Sadly nuff of us cant afford dem because a bunch of us are barely making $2000 a month.

SOCIAL SECURITY NEVER BORROWED 40 MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE IMF OR CARIBBEAN DEVELOPMENT Bank to Build these Homes ..That Money belongs to the Tax Payers Whose Salaries it Came From.. We are Now Looking at an other NHI Fiasco.!!! The Same Manner in Which Social Security DEDUCTS.
    from the Working
Class Salary is the Same Manner in Which These Homes Should be paid for ..NOT A LOAN FROM AN LENDING
INSTITUTION. What does the Term (SOCIAL SECURITY) MEANS.??? ENRICH THE BANKS...!!!
