Squash legend Nick Matthew OBE to participate in Meridian Masters tournament in VI

PASEA ESTATE, Tortola, VI- 3 Time World Champion, 3 Time Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and former World No.1 Nick Matthew, OBE will display his world class skills when Tortola Sports Club hosts the 32nd Annual Meridian Masters Squash Tournament from November 22-24, 2024.

Considered to be one of the greatest Squash players of all time, Matthew will not only be participating in the event but he will also be visiting a few junior squash sessions to help inspire the VI’s future generations of squash players.

According to Tortola Sports Club, at the conclusion of the tournament Matthew will be playing an Exhibition Match against VI National Squash Coach, Adam Murrills.

Meanwhile, the Masters Tournament will have various age groups for the competitors to participate in including Men’s Over 35, Over 45, Over 55 and Over 65. On the Women’s side there will be an Over 35 event and an over 50 event.

“We will be welcoming 25 overseas entrants who will be supplemented by 25 of the BVI’s best players. This year we have a strong contingent from Canada and we also have players arriving from Barbados, St Vincent, USA, and the UK,” a press release from Tortola Sports Club stated.

More than just a squash tournament

According to the same press release, the Meridian Masters is more than just a squash tournament but is also a social event where friends from originally around the Caribbean… but now further afield as well… come together to compete hard but also to have fun whilst playing the game that we all love.

“Meridian Construction do a fantastic job in entertaining the players and this is epitomised by the Sunday Boat Trip where we visit various islands in order to truly showcase the full beauty of the BVI!
