Sports Minister congratulates Adaejah T. Hodge on historic win in Lima
The teenager won the 200m final in a time of 22.75 seconds on August 30, 2024. Two days before, on August 28, she took the silver medal in the 100m final, clocking a time of 11.27 seconds.
In a message posted on social media today, September 1, 2024, Hon de Castro said, “These achievements solidify her status as a teenage sprinting phenomenon and have placed the British Virgin Islands firmly on the global athletics map.”
Her success in the 100m and 200m, the minister said, underscores Hodge’s extraordinary talent and versatility as a sprinter and while it is a personal triumph it is also a monumental moment for the Virgin Islands.
Adaejah is an inspiration
Hon de Castro also said, “Adaejah’s dedication, discipline, and relentless pursuit of excellence serve as a powerful inspiration to young athletes both here in the BVI and around the world. Adaejah’s victories in Lima reflect the strength of her character and the unwavering support from her family, coaches, and the entire BVI community.”
Hon de Castro reaffirmed support for Hodge adding, “May these victories be just the beginning of an even more remarkable journey ahead.”

Question to the politicians, if Britiny Griner came down with a little sauce in her bag are we to lock her up like the Russians? Legalize cannabis. Pass the 2020 cannabis act. Bet the athletes can use it some way in recovery.
