Challenges
Plagued with overcast skies and the threat of rain, only about 25 out of the 40 entrants turned up for the Easter Monday Parade on April 17, 2017.
It is not clear as to the reason why close to 15 entrants who registered to participate were a no show in what was slated to be one of the largest and superlative events, particularly for the major milestone that the festival had just attained.
Several persons who attended the parade were happy in some respects, such as the year seeing a lot more troupes, but others were disappointed that the full numbers who were slated to put on a grand spectacle were a no show.
Troupes from the Philippines, Dominica, and the US Virgin Islands (USVI), were among those seen having fun and giving spectators a good demonstration.
“I’m just disappointed, I expected more troupes,” one man who stood watching in disbelief when the Officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force were seen coming down the road, signaling an end to the parade.
Immediately following the parade, hundreds were seen flocking the dock to return home before the showers started pouring down. The festival was expected to climax with Elvis White Band, OMG Band, It’s a Secret Band ft. Shereen and Claudette Peters and Asa Banton.
