VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Despite the awesome burst of colours and the streets of the Valley bustling with visitors from far and wide, the highly awaited Easter Monday Parade that was one of the final activities for the 50th Virgin Gorda Easter Festival did not end on a high note.

At the end of it all, Speedy’s was adjudged the winner of the Adult Float category, Robinson O’Neal Primary School won in the School’s Division while Buck’s Supermarket won Best Troupe in the Children’s Division, according to sources close to the VG Easter Festival Committee.

Challenges

Plagued with overcast skies and the threat of rain, only about 25 out of the 40 entrants turned up for the Easter Monday Parade on April 17, 2017.

It is not clear as to the reason why close to 15 entrants who registered to participate were a no show in what was slated to be one of the largest and superlative events, particularly for the major milestone that the festival had just attained.

Several persons who attended the parade were happy in some respects, such as the year seeing a lot more troupes, but others were disappointed that the full numbers who were slated to put on a grand spectacle were a no show.

Troupes from the Philippines, Dominica, and the US Virgin Islands (USVI), were among those seen having fun and giving spectators a good demonstration.

“I’m just disappointed, I expected more troupes,” one man who stood watching in disbelief when the Officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force were seen coming down the road, signaling an end to the parade.

Immediately following the parade, hundreds were seen flocking the dock to return home before the showers started pouring down. The festival was expected to climax with Elvis White Band, OMG Band, It’s a Secret Band ft. Shereen and Claudette Peters and Asa Banton.

Hopefully in the future, the CLIQUES Will CEASE. This brings shame and disdain on Virgin Gorda.

Congrats to speedys with its awesome and beautiful boat! It reminded me of the macys parade. We can see that a lot of effort was put into that master piece. The speedys boat was definitely a winner in my book

There were other entries waiting to join the parade but unfortunately they had a hard time getting music because genarators did not work. no comittee member ever checked to make sure that all the entries left the starting point.By the time they finally got music so sad there was no one on the road to even view them. The judges and all had already gone.
