NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI – Boat Captains and several other residents including Mr Daniel Harrigan and Mr Allington O. Creque aka DJ Gumption are calling for serious investigations into the allegedly secret business behind the ownership or alleged paid usage of a ferry dock at Gun Creek in North Sound, Virgin Gorda.

The issue seems to be causing much furor among boat operators and a private resort on the island. The matter came to the forefront at a recent community meeting of residents of Virgin Gorda and Ninth District Representative Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, on Sunday April 13, 2014.

“Somebody is collecting money for that dock every month but I don’t know who is collecting it so I need you to check into it,” resident Mr Daniel Harringan said. The dock under contention is one of two said to be the property of the Crown.

The main cry of the residents is that they are not being allowed to use the dock as they should as one resort owner tends to dominate and operate with some suggestion of authority and ownership. “The people who live here, they have boats and have a right to tie up there. If he want dock let him (the resort owner) build his own dock,” said Mr Harrigan.

Mr Harrigan said that he has spoken with several boat captains who ply the area and like him they accused resort owner of attempting to stop them from mooring their boats at what should be a dock for the usage by the general public.

He said that he took his concerns to the Port Authority in Tortola and was told that they knew nothing about the allegations.

Mr Creque also said that he was a witness and a victim of the abuse of the usage of the dock. “At one point I came in after doing my nightly runs, the dock was empty...They are paying whoever they are paying to own the dock and it’s just difficult,” alleged Mr Creque.

“They were people, captains who saw them move it (his glass bottom boat) from one side and put it to the other side. They ain't want to say nothing. Putting it right in front of his boat, Mr Stephen boat, where maybe it was hitting the anchor of his boat all night causing damage to mine,” he said.

He contended that the so called secret owners of one of the docks are taking advantage of the facilities and they very often utilize both of the docks.

Hon O’Neal told residents he became of the aware of the issues shortly after arriving to the Island on Sunday and as such could not reach the relevant authority at the time to investigate but promised to look into the matter very seriously.

Several attempts yesterday by this news site to Reach Managing Director of the BVI Port Authority Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline on those and other issues were futile.

Well my understanding is that Government "Ministry of Natural" leased the dock to the Oil Nut Bay Developer to be used exclusively by Oil Nut Bay. If this is the case then the Minister should have told the people of North Sound so. Especially the boat owners who have used that dock for years. I am referring to the dock that is below the resident of Honourable Reeial George, RIP. These are the type of sneaky under hand dealings that we the peopple hate. The samething was tried when Government presented the Gun Creek development plans claiming that the Oil Nut Bay Developer had nothing to do with the proposed development when in fact he was the one pushing it. We are not against development. What we are against is dishonesty and having secret deals made without telling the people. We want a Government that is transparent not one that meets in secret at Oil Nut Bay over cocktails and dinner.

Oil Nut Bay was the first resort I thought of. They are quietly taking over and controlling much of north sound while Government is getting sucked into the glamour and "five-star-ism" of it. Pretty soon the people of VG will just be service people for the villa and resort owners while they take over. Turtle tourists... they take their shell with them...

The people of VG have already been the service people for the villa and resort owners long time! Soon from now, they won't even be that because of all the imported labour they will just be "unemployed."

Not only pushing for it but was the designer of the plan. It would be no surprise if it is not only the dock but also other parts of Gun Creek owned by Goverment (and we where uneqivocally reminded of this fact by Mr. Penn at the Gun Creek meeting) which has been leased because this goverment feels only the outsiders have a vision for what our country should look like and from what I hear it does not include us in any way. They don't even want to have to look at our homes from where they are.

the current plan for Gun Creek as presented months ago was over-sized, big and glitzy, the perfect place for ONB and resort visitors to go shopping. They have the sea plane in there and it is a port of entry. Pandora's box is open.

It is sad that the ppl of Virgin Gorda has the suffer like this. Go down to gun Creek at night you will see that docks are full. So how can Oil nut bay have a dock for themselves ?? who gave this permission. They are segregated at the resort no one can go unless invited..do not talk about the beach they own water rights.
This Branson at Necker and Johnson at Oil Nut is up to no good and they got thye NDP in the palms of their hands selling out the ppl and country. God help us...they must go!

So when PEP or VIP get in power do you think anything will change on Necker, Oil Nut and elsewhere? Stop making this a political thing because it is not. These men had power in BVI no matter whether it was Lavity, Ralph or Orlando in power. Who let in the monkeys not so long ago? Give it a rest. A set of VIP bloggers hungry to get their hands back on the Treasury trying to paint NDP black as if they're white. These rich investors have ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL politicians eating out their hands. ALLL!! Full stop, cut the s..t now.

Do not lump Branson and Necker with the other one.....Branson is a first class citizen in the manner he handles himself and the creative work he has done, in the name of conservation, the future of the BVI, and the good things he does for many of us in need.

I like how they complain about the other dock while they actually are blocking the main one. I tried to put my boat on the main dock once and I received a call 2 hours later saying that I needed to remove it from the dock because the other boats which normally occupy it were not able to dock.

So... Gumption, Necker Island, Biras, Bitter End, etc are allowed to "own" the dock and nobody asks any questions...
