ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Asking if the recommendations of the Review of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Bodies in the British Virgin Islands, Volume II: A Roadmap for 2025 to 2035, is a continuation of the Commission of Inquiry in the Virgin Islands, Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL) has urged the urged public to read the report for themselves.

According to the At Large Member, there are some good recommendations in the report,t but there is also a great temptation to “throw the baby out with the bathwater”.

Hon Smith was at the time giving her contribution to the debate on the Review of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Bodies in the British Virgin Islands, Volume II: A Roadmap for 2025 to 2035, during the continuation of the Sitting of the 2nd Session of the 5th House of Assembly (HoA) on April 10, 2025.

‘Repugnant’

According to Hon Smith, there are some areas in the nearly 300 pages of the report that could redound against the economic good of the territory, but there are others “that are simply repugnant, and that is why there is that great temptation to just ignore the report.

“In fact, not only repugnant sometimes, it borders on xenophobia and I could use other forms of language that you, Mr Speaker, will tell me are inappropriate for the House.”

Hon Smith also said she “strongly” supports the position of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) that “in some ways this report and specifically the recommendation that the Customs Department and the Immigration Department should be combined and placed under the governor’s authority is a colonial step.

“As my colleague said, it’s a retrograde step, and I could not say it better, it is retrogressive and totally unacceptable.

Hon Smith made it clear that she does not take the matter of immigration and border security lightly and that the need to combine Immigration and Customs may be critical, “but I do not understand why they need to be under the authority of the governor. This is the issue for me.”

Hon Smith said HM Customs would be better served within the purview of the Minister of Finance.

And who is taking over and punishing UK for their thiefing? As long as satan is in the world there will be thiefing. No reason to try and run things in a country that they don't care enough to help with a dollar in time of catastrophic disaster. And the offer of a loan does not qualify as help. If we have to fix it ourselves, we can get our own doggone loan. After Irma and Maria I really saw how much they care about us. The Prince, now King, came and walked around the Queen Elizabeth Park for a few minutes and then left. He didn't bring as much as a bushel of apples with him. So miss me with this foolishness. We pay our own way, we close our doors and beat our children. None of their business.

Take them to the Adina Donovan Home . Less than 20 residence there now . Could accomodate atleast 15 more residence. Too many office space and almost empty storage space there. Needs redesigning then there will be plenty of space for new residence.

The majority of ways on how to execute the duties of managing the B.V.I affires correctly by both the UK'S government, and the B.V.I government is repugnant.

True, Hon. Lorna Smith junior minister of the current local government, (Al) representative. I too do agrees with you that the UK'S 300 plus Volume 2 recommendations without it junior partners input is an arrogant, and repugnant over bullying actons of a rasist government mindset, even though you have not used the words in this comment, but I did because of your response to the topic issue shape disagreement between the B.V.I government's the UK'S government's position.
Unlike you, and some other the acting like we cannot survive without the UK'S headshipa, Many and I will never accept the UK'S infringement on our God given right to choose our destiny, our social, and political partners affiliation wisely, I hope moving to the future.

However, the non ending mismanagement of the people of the B.V.I finances, and other evil behaviors, etc., by our local government leaders over decades, and other reasons not mentioned as yet or never will be, have embolding the UK'S government to and is acting as it is its rights to play the role of God over us, our children, and grand children destiny.

No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. No. No. No.
No, no, no. *Sing with me)

No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. No, no, no
    No, no, no.

Never, never no, no. Never, never no, no. Never, never, no, no. Never, never no, no, will we agree.

enact ALL the recommendations or the UK will enforce the Order in Council suspending the BVI Constitution, disbanding the HOA, make most civil servants redundant and rule the BVI as a true colony through the Governor.

What was the reason for the recommendations?
Did our actions contribute thereto ?
Do we need to do some self examination?
It is one thing to complain and reject, but we must show that we are capable rectifying our problems and failures on our own

...what do you and your government recommend? You all stood up in there criticizing the report and offered nothing to the people. Why does the UK have to recommend we consolidate Customs and Immigration? Why cant we do this ourselves? We see the inefficiency and the issues having these separate, but my goodness you guys sit and do nothing! Now the UK said combine AND put under the Governor and you all up in arms about it. Fix the issues!!!!! Fix the issues! And stop talking for hours at end in the HOA and then ultimately doing absolutely nothing. We are tired of this nonsense. You and that government you joined need to step aside if you cannot do it. I am fed up!

If they had put some money in our Treasury and the Politicians or whomever were stealing it, then that gave them a right to come and at least look at and maybe take over this country's finances. The persons who madam cindy is asking to exit stage left and others of their age group burst their behinds working to build our Financial Services Sector. That is our bread and butter today. The UK instead of helping with anything, they are trying to throw that down. The gains are too much for a group of black neanderthals living in the Caribbean Sea. Oh, I forgot. They built us a Prison. Well, thanks. But what I can say for sure, is that we may be under the UK Rule, but all we have had up until today are Governors who came, stayed for a while, worked in Cabinet, etc, but not having the kind of say that they want now in our country. They want to join Customs and Immigration with Police under the Governor? The Police force is not properly run and I can remember when a Governor decided he wanted more money for the Police so he went into the Treasury and took over $2 million more for the Police than their yearly sum. We now have over 350 police officers and many, many white officers from the UK. Are we seeing any big difference in the Police Force? Do these UK officers, that we have to pay, of course, have Metropolitan Police experience? Then why are we not seeing new initiatives and more crime solving? Community Police was done away with by one of these white Commissioners that we have had here for almost ten years now and no difference, but the Governor is poised and ready to bring another one? I can bet that person will receive a much higher salary than Ms. Vanterpool who has reinstated Community Policing and is doing more to solve petty crimes like robbery, et cetera. We have to decide whether we are going to let the UK walk all over us or not. They are not assisting monetarily when they assist other countries in the Caribbean, so I would not agree that the Politicians' behaviour now is enough for them to take over. Our politicians, our business? It is time we voted out who are not pulling their weight in the HOA instead of doing the same foolishness every election cycle and expecting different results. A personal favour may help you today, but next week when the price of groceries killing your behind it is nothing but a distant memory. Vote for country. Now that makes sense.

@ and. The government had several opportunity to "fix" Immigration and they drop the "Beach Ball". The NDP was the worst dealing with immigration. I'll say no more.
