ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- As the territory’s active COVID-19 cases continue to see an unprecedented uptick, the Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Ronald E. Georges said some residents who have tested positive with the virus are not informing those closest to them.

This was just one of the concerns he raised during his live COVID-19 situation update on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

'Inappropriate behaviours'

“We are concerned with a number of inappropriate behaviours being exhibited by members of the public which are not helpful and potentially dangerous to all of us,” he said.

“For example, it has been brought to our attention that employers are demanding their employees to be tested before coming to work. There are persons not adhering to public health orders, there are persons who are being abusive to the health staff, there are persons not adhering to the general stay at home order, there are persons who have tested positive who are not disclosing to their loved ones at home of their status and not taking precautions among other issues.”

The CMO added that other areas include persons not following the testing schedule and are testing at inappropriate times.

'Act responsibly'- Acting CMO

He then called on all residents to “change all of these and act responsibly to stop community spread and stop endangering each other.”

Dr Georges also said that with 1296 active cases now reported, the Virgin Islands is now in an advanced stage of community transmission and everyone is at risk.

Hence, “Geographical distribution and contract tracing are irrelevant at this point because we are in a situation of very high transmission and community spread throughout the territory. This means that all persons must simply take urgent and immediate steps to limit the exposure of the spread of the virus. Testing is less important at this time, and strict adherence of the public health measures and getting vaccinated these are the two most important measures for the public to take immediately.”

A number of employers are also now forcing employees to take the vaccines or be jobless.

      While you can say, in a technical point of view that the Vaccine does give you the virus(That's how you create antibodies from the vaccine). It's not correct to say the Vaccine causing the outbreak as with the antibodies created it helps you fight covid when you get it from outside. What actually causing the outbreak is people not being sanitary and caring for themselves or people around them. The same way you catch a cold/Flu is the same way you can catch covid. Wear a mask stay away from people, wash your hands and avoid touching you face and you should be good. Otherwise Good luck.

        The AZ vaccine does not give you Covid. It gives you a small dose of a chimpanzee flu that does not harm humans but resembles Covid and causes the immune system to produce antibodies that will fight Covid on sight.

      If the infected person not sneezing, coughing, having body fluids all over and cleaning up after themselves you honestly will be alright. If they are doing the above you should be isolating as well.

    Irresponsibly: Tola Radio, C***y & K****a have been unbelievable irresponsible. Anyone can talk words but only real people will do the homework themselves. Those 3 platforms where none of them never spent an hour in a health class session are telling certified Doctors what to do or how to do it. A lot of the people are following those people; Well looks like K***a gone gospel she’s realized the fighting and blaming ain’t helping; she’s noticed that the support online ain’t shown in physical and most of her supporters are fake.. I’m happy she’s realize that most of the people who chair for her on Facebook don’t actually care.

    I think when the test come back posivite the government need to isolate those positive cases. They need to make sure those persons are in quarantine and isolated. How are these persons not telling their families that means they are being allowed to go home after testing positive. They should be in isolation as soon as the test are out.

    It is definately wrong to conceal a positive test and/or not disclose your close contacts. Some persons co-workers are just scandalous and treat/talk about persons with covid like they have AIDS. Small mind mentality and love gossip. Add to that, its $70 - $80 to test and re-test everytime. Now tell me, single mom for example with 2 teenage kids all have to test and re-test let's say at $70 each. Do you see why some persons may decide to make an un-safe decision and ride it out at the risk of others for not been economically sound. If testing and re-testing is free, please feel free to say otherwise.

    Government drop the ball when they allowed so called fully vaccinated person to come in and go about without any testing and thats were it went wrong regardless if persons not properly following protocols there would have so many cases now government dont give a damn when they release this so Mr Malone , Andrew Fahie deal with it ,if you dont have people to work your economy still will suffer ,it seem like its money over peoples health for this government but you will have to lockdown now or latter it have to happen because this will pass your 5000 mark if you dont you talked about hospital capacity act now or regret it dont let the Governor intervene.

      Stop blaming the Government for everything and take accountability for your actions for once. Even with people coming in without testing. If persons were doing what they had to do and being sanitary there wouldn't be an outbreak.

      This outbreak was waiting to happen. BVI was in denial. Nothing to do with visitors, vaccinated or not. If it did, how come there’s no similar outbreak in US VI

    This!!! Makes no sense to me. There seems to be some stigma re: having covid and there doesn’t need to be. By telling persons that you’ve been in contact with can possibly save their life/lives.. everyone’s immune system is not the same (in terms of being strong) .disclosing is the right thing to do from a health prospective, and it’s also an act of love and caring..
