Some CoI implementation deadlines 'unrealistic'- DaBreo-Lettsome
Further, the Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office, Sharleen S. DaBreo Lettsome, said the local Commission of Inquiry showed that the VI was already doing some things well, including its Public Service Transformation.
She said; however, that some of the deadlines for implementation of CoI reform under the Framework for Implementation were unrealistic.
DaBreo-Lettsome was at the time speaking on a programme called Government Business At Its Best–Table Talk, aired on August 30, 2023.
She said some things were presented in the CoI Report that showed that the VI did do things very well, "that we had an exceptional public service that had the strength to implement work of the government for many, many years but there were some areas where we didn't do so well and those areas were transitioned into what the CoI report was evolved into, which was a framework that identified specific recommendations,” she said.
DaBreo-Lettsome said that in implementing that framework it was realised that "some of the deadlines were not realistic. So we have had PS Igwe [Carolyn E. Stoutt-Igwe] and others have negotiations with the UK about the possibility of giving us a little bit more time.”
She added that when you read a report like the CoI's and look at the framework, the work is something that you would expect a government to implement in 5 to 10 years.
Progress of CoI Recommendations implementation
Meanwhile, Mrs Stoutt-Igwe said that by the end of July 2023, 24 recommendations had been completed, and 26 were still in progress.
“The 50 Framework Recommendations have been split into 131 actions and of these actions, 77 or 59% have been completed,” she said.
While the Virgin Islands government and people agree that there is a need for reform in the territory, they have argued that some of the recommendations need time and consultation with the people before implementation.
The UK earlier this year gave a revised deadline of May 2024 for the CoI Recommendations to be implemented.

How long are we going to sit down and let these evil bastards treat us like children.
Tell me, what good thoughts do we have for each other in this place??
We victimize and down press our own people, we don’t want to see each other succeed. We literally hate each other, but yet we keep bawling, the UK, the UK! We need to check ourselves and our relationship with each other as BVIslanders and then we can talk!
Bunch evil-minded people in this place!
If the UK takeover we have only ourselves to blame!
Then the Governor adds to the planned set up by giving speeches every week sighting his concerns over the slow progress so he can blind the public of the realities & truth of the issue and brainwash them to believe he will be justified to do what he intends to do any how. The people of BVI have to rise up NOW.
have RESPECT for our own CULTURE , and when it's brought to the attention by THOSE WHO HAVE THAT RESPECT / WE start the BLAME GAME SONG AS USUAL / so take a step back out of the LIONS DEN
