BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- As the public eagerly awaits the names of the artistes to perform at the Virgin Islands’ 70th Emancipation Festival, Events Manager at the BVI Tourist Board Mr Dirk L. Walters has said BVITB hopes to disclose some of the artistes by next week Friday.

“I can’t state names right at this minute. We hope to release a couple names next week, because what we are doing is next week Friday, April 26, 2024, we have an event that we are doing at the Market Square, where we will be publicly releasing the winning slogan and we will be presenting the winner of the slogan and the theme [for Festival],” Mr Walters stated on Talking Points on ZBVI 780 AM on April 15, 2024.

The 70th VI Emancipation Festival is slated for July 14- August 10, 2024.

International Reggae Night is August 2, 2024, while International Soca Night is August 2, 2024.

Mr Walters said the event next week Friday will also feature cultural activities, Moko Jumbies, steel pan music, a fungi band and local foods.

Additionally, Mr Walters said the BVITB will be marketing the Festival “heavily” along the eastern seaboard of the US as well as the Caribbean.

My preference I prefer a good band who would give us a nice 2 hr session than an individual artist who hardly sing, yet want $30gran when you can pay a great band 10 - 12 gran. Grand masters, Onion, Sugar band, Signal, triple K. Collision..I prefer going to a band session.

All these events being promoted so close together will cannibalise each other and confuse the market. Horrible marketing strategy. Instead of creating intrigue it will create disgust. They don’t know what they are doing!
