DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - Billed by pundits as a do or die encounter, Gilas clawed their way to a 100-80 victory against Real Tool in the Hon. Julian Fraser Save The Seed National Intermediate League on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Save the Seed Gym.

Tyron Tyson, Louis Poblete and Brendon Smart were the men when it mattered most for Gilas who used a strong first quarter performance to grab a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish until just before the half way break. In fact Real Tool would take the lead just twice in the game, late in the second period when they went ahead 43-42 and then early in the third when they sneaked into a 50-48 advantage.

Gilas then went into over drive using the next five minutes of the period to outscore Real Tool 12 -8 and closed out the quarter 7 points ahead at 69-62.

The 4th quarter then became a rout as Gilas racked up 31 points to reach three figures in the final few seconds whilst Real Tool could only muster another 18.

Tyson finished with a double of 36 points and 15 rebounds, as did Brendon Smart (26 and 21) and Louis Poblete (16 and 10). Vivian Smart added 10 points and 8 assists for the Gilas who record their first win of the campaign.

For Real Tool, Touche McLean scored 19 points with 9 rebounds, Caleb Leonard hit a double of 14 points and 14 rebounds and Pillon Etienne notched 16 points.

Earlier on Saturday in the 9-12 Division Young Gunners had romped into a 24-4 half time lead against Wet when the referees had no option but to call the game.

Wet only had seven players on the bench and the competition rules restrict playing time for individuals, meaning a team needs eight players. No one is allowed to play 3 consecutive full quarters.

D’Andre Penn and Ajai Frett had picked up eight points each for the Gunners.

As the Gym filled up with spectators Talk Done lived up to their name and beat On Top of Things (who clearly weren’t) 65-61.

Kevon “the left handed mumba” Lettsome top scored with 20 points and both Glenal Layne (16/13) and Clint Weston (14/15) notched doubles.

For On Top of Things Jamal Sergeant scored 16 and Deshawn Matthew 13.

The last game then saw Knights beat the Gunners 85-79 thanks largely to 32 points and 13 rebounds from Jevon Knights. Jeff Morris added 13, Keno Gumbs 10 and Eric Casey 9.

For the Gunners, Daslan Hodge scored 22, Kyle Abraham 16, Jamarli Jones 12 and Kamni O’Neal 7.

The previous day’s action saw Game Boyz beat Da 3rd, 89-64, with Shaq Fonseca's double of 29 points and 16 rebounds highlighting a comfortable win. Nehassie Chalwell added 24 points, Roger Frank 19 and Khari Adams 10.

Da 3rd were led by 24 points from Kemron Grant and 18 from Rushawn Johnson.

Top Shottas also recorded big win, 71-59, over the College Boys. Tyron Donovan notched 22 points for Shottas whilst Benson Thomas hit 16 and Alliston Brewley doubled with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Ahley Ritter scored 20 for the College team, who also got 13 from Carlisle France.
