Skelton-Cline advocates collective stand against UK overreach

- said the VI must write the UK regarding its position on the Law Enforcement Review Report
Commentator and clergyman Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline is calling on elected officials to formally draft a singular, collective correspondence articulating the Territory’s official position, in response to the Review of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Bodies in the British Virgin Islands, Volume II: A Roadmap for 2025 to 2035. BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI— Radio personality and outspoken commentator Claude O. Skelton-Cline is calling on elected officials to formally draft a singular, collective correspondence articulating the Territory’s official position on the Review of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Bodies in the British Virgin Islands, Volume II: A Roadmap for 2025 to 2035.

Speaking during his Honestly Speaking radio programme aired on ZBVI 780 AM on April 15, 2025, Pastor Skelton-Cline expressed optimism in wake of what he described as an unprecedented show of unanimity in the House of Assembly (HoA).

Everybody has a Role

"For the first time in a long time, I saw where all 13 members of the House of Assembly was basically, fundamentally, at least in principle, was in agreement, and on one page, in regards to this report."

Recalling the Leader of the Opposition—Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (R6)—had aptly described the roadmap document as “an Order in Council through the back door,” Skelton-Cline agreed, calling it “...an accurate descriptive and description of what this is.”

Reaffirming that all elected representatives have a crucial role in shaping the Territory’s destiny, Skelton-Cline advocated further, the response also encompasses the broader citizenry.

"Everybody has a role to play; What you cannot afford is not to play your role.”

Repeat of 1949

Lambasting the substantive contents of the ‘roadmap report’ as a disrespect to the historic struggles and achievements of the Virgin Islands’ forebearers, he told the listening audience, "...this report is really a blatant disregard for the sweat, the toil, the labour, the sacrifice, the bloodshed of our ancestors.”

As such, he cautioned that the current trajectory of the United Kingdom's governance in the Territory mirrors the conditions that sparked the famed 1949 protest march.

“My prophetic friend told me… Cline, if we’re not careful, you’re about to see a repeat of 1949 in your country,’ and it’s going to be by and large because of the overreach of the United Kingdom and abuse of their power,” he recounted.

Retrograde & Retarded

Additionally, Skelton-Cline in his advocacy for an official and unified statement of national position, said “You all need—and I want to encourage—to draft and sign on to a singular piece of correspondence that should be delivered to the Governor, to the Secretary of State, and to whomever else that’s a part of the protocol, stating the position of this country.”

He insisted however, that this effort should not end with political leaders, urging instead, "...we must go a step further as other citizens have suggested, we as citizens, you as politicians in your own districts and at large, need to be a part of mobilising the country through hard copy and electronic signatures… about this country’s position on the retrograde and the retarded modes of operation that is resulting from the CoI [Commission of Inquiry] and other incidents.”

According to the man of the cloth, “...there’s no one riding in on a white horse; You and I must carry and run our leg of the journey.”

So how are things going for the Territory under "self rule" by the "indigenous" BVI populace? Rising gun crime and drug use, former Premier in prison for drug dealing, water and electricity cannot be delivered reliably (as a BTW, how is it going with the vaunted Anegada Solar Farm?), health care delivery is sporadic at best, and how do you like the condition of the roads?

One last note about that Anegada Solar Farm, since the principal of Power52 (Rob Wallace, Jr.) filed for personal bankruptcy (yet again) in July of 2023, the government as been mum on the current completion date, which was supposed to have been in December of 2023, then got moved back to December of 2024:
https://www.virginislandsnewsonline.com/en/news/premier-hopeful-solar-project-on-anegada-will-be-completed-early-2025. Here's the telling excerpt: "The Government of the Virgin Islands has yet to give a detailed update on why the project has not yet been completed." This is yet another of the "vanity projects" such as BVI Airways that provide a photo op for the solons, but deliver nothing - and there is zero accountability. Next up is the continued push to expand the Beef Island airport, even though the "Business Case" has never been reduced to writing or even seriously evaluated (and it cannot be, because anyone with a moderately functioning brain knows that there IS NO VALID BUSINESS CASE for it).

UK might know more about the corrupt indigenous than most. No wonder they only want their kind in top positions...no corrupt cousin will rat on their other corrupt cousin. They only end up ratting on themselves as in the fahie and Maynard case. Talk talk. I will sit back and eat my popcorn and watch. Who would fight for a country that hates them because their parents not from here. Not I. No thanks.

The COI was an eye opener, The people who were shouting the loudest were all arrested. As they did not think the laws applied to them. Sad state of affairs when you think your above the law. The law is clear but you dont want to be held accountable by the UK/BVI laws.
