Sistah Joyce cutting reggae album in Jamaica
The Virgin Islander, who hails from the sister island of Virgin Gorda, said she spent time in Jamaica during the early days of March 2016. She is to complete the work in the coming months.
She recently returned to the territory to take part in the KT Promotions concert held on Saturday March 12, 2016 at Tortola Pier Park where she gave a sterling performance with some of her best known reggae pieces such as Sistah Smokey, Love Potion and a few others.
According to the reggae songstress and Calypso Monarch, the album comprises 14 tracks, including eleven of which are new ones and will be unfamiliar to most.
She said she wrote all of the songs on the track which were then put together by a team of producers at a studio in Jamaica.
Searles said that while this is by no means her first reggae album, this is the first time she has worked in such a professional setting and said the experience was a great one that she will cherish.
“I am just basically working on an album and some new stuff. We are doing 14 tracks of all conscious reggae music.”
“This is going to be my fourth full album,” she said. “This is my first time working out of Jamaica. And wow...it is a great experience. It's more work, more grounded music and with more live instruments,” she said.
Searles is working with Ansel Collins who worked with such artists as Jimmy Cliff, Robert Nesta Marley, and also Niko who worked with Junior Kelly and Gyptian. She said that so far all of the music were mixed and mastered at Anchor Studio in Kingston, Jamaica.
“That is just about it...I want the people to stay tuned for more to come. We haven't named the album as yet but we soon finish,” she said, preferring not to disclose much more at this point.
