Sista Joyce, B’More leave positive 'vibes' with ASPS pupils
And on that night too, the school, said to be the largest primary school in the territory, held its Math Night, an evening of fun math games meant to engage both children and their parents.
According to the reports reaching our newsroom, both events were overwhelming successes.
Speaking with this news site, Principal of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School Marietta C. Flax-Headley gave a wrap up of the event.
“The culture day was very good. We started off with the St George's Steel Orchestra named Miracle Touch. They opened up the programme with steel pan music. Then we had a harvest celebration where our children were all dressed in BVI territorial wear and they marched with various fruits, vegetables and pastries that are unique to the BVI, like tarts and coconut bread and the like” she said.
She said after this there was a fashion show where the students were able to model in their cultural wear, including cultural t-shirts which were produced.
“Then we had our feature artistes for the day where we focused on the music form of calypso. We had Mackenzie Baltimore aka ‘B’More’. He was a former student of our school and a former soca monarch. He came and he performed for the children, followed by the reigning Calypso Monarch Joycelyn Searles aka Sista Joyce. She spoke to the students about the company that they keep and then she sang her song ‘Misery Loves Company’” she said.
According to the Principal, the Calypso Monarch then performed her winning song for this year ‘Pure Licks’ for the students. The school then held its Math Night later that evening.
