Shortened HoA today; No voting of new Deputy Speaker

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Information reaching our News Centre is that the House of Assembly sitting from 1:00 PM, today, March 24, 2025, will be a brief one, with only one bill to be addressed.

It is also our understanding that a vote for a new Deputy Speaker will not occur today as Dr the Honourable Karl Dawson (R1) will be out of the territory.

Dr Dawson will be attending the OECS Economic Affairs Council Meeting in St Vincent and the Grenadines. That meeting is slated for the Holiday Inn Express from 9:00 AM on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

Hon Mather remains Deputy Speaker

There was anticipation today that the new Opposition Leader, Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) would take his seat and that a new Deputy would be voted on.

It means Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL), a member of the rebel Alliance, will get to hold on to his title as Deputy Speaker for a few more days.

It is unclear when would be the next sitting of the HoA.

Meanwhile, Hon Walwyn is expected to be sworn in as Opposition Leader by Governor Daniel Pruce this morning.

The Alliance holds a three-seat majority in the 5-member Opposition and did not hesitate to oust Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) as leader.

    What is wrong with the people we voted into power? I now see why the then Opposition could not form the Government. All wanted power. We will demonstrate people's power come 2027 with these heap of crickets jumping all over the House. We will put them in a corner to chirp.

    These people are so disorganized and it is no wonder the country is in the state it is in. Did Karl buy his ticket to St. Vincent last night? Did you not know he was going there today and therefore will not be present for you to vote him in to say Yes to everything you want? How much longer do we have to endure this nonsense? Then Corna lady done gone to help the mess soon to be followed by Skelly and Penn! Help us Lord (or UK)! Help us!
