Shaamuoy A. Baronville appointed Deputy Director of Virgin Islands Shipping Registry


This was announced by the Registry on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
According to the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry, at just 29 years old, Mr Baronville brings a wealth of expertise, holding a Master's Degree in Maritime Administration and Logistics.
“Having served in various maritime capacities, including roles at the BVI Ports Authority and the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry, he is well-prepared for this significant role,” the Registry stated on its Facebook page.
Mr Baronville previously served as Management Cadet at the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry.
‘Leveraging technology to streamline processes & systems’
Speaking on his appointment, Mr Baronville said he is honored to serve as the first Deputy Director of the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry.
“This role allows me to utilise my maritime skills and knowledge to contribute to the growth of the BVI's marine industry. My goal is to enhance the department by leveraging technology to streamline processes and systems, providing an improved customer experience and supporting the overall development and success of the department," Baronville related.
The Director of Shipping is Mr John M. Samuel.
Meanwhile, the new Registrar of Shipping and Seaman is Mrs Lecia Christoper Thomas.
The position was previously held by Mr Ronald U. Donovan who passed away in September 2023.
The role of the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry (VISR) is to implement the Maritime policies of the Government covering shipping operations, safety of life at sea, security and the prevention of, and response to, pollution from ships.
Ship registration provides a revenue stream to the VI through the registration fees for ships and seafarers, and also for the corporate registration of the companies set up in the VI to own and represent the ships.
