ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting tenders for the Supply of Security Services for Immigration Detainees housed at Hotel Castle Maria in Road Town, Tortola.

According to a press release from the Government Information Service (GIS) on June 11, 2024, the proposed scope of service comprises providing 24-hour security service for immigration detainees housed at Hotel Castle Maria.

The primary purpose is to safeguard the perimeters and safety of persons held in detention by the Immigration Department.

Close to 90 illegal migrants apprehended since February

Nearly 90 illegal migrants were caught in the Virgin Islands between February and April 2024.

Between February 14 and 15, 2024, 35 illegal migrants were rounded up on Cooper Island while on February 29, 2024, 14 illegal migrants were apprehended on Virgin Gorda. Police had said they believed there were more yet to be arrested.

On April 19, 19 illegal migrants were nabbed at Cox Heath on Tortola.

It is unclear how many illegal migrants have since been repatriated and how many are currently being housed at Hotel Castle Maria.

It should be noted that immigration detainees are also persons held at airports and seaports for violating the territory's immigration laws.

    It's been reported that the detainees are being granted immunity word is that many of them have disappeared once they were allowed out of the facility. What do you need more security services for. Stop wasting money and fix the roads. Nothing in the BVI is making any kind of sense anymore.

    the detention center should be at Balsam Ghut not in a hotel. Try entering the USVI or anywhere else illegally and see which hotel they'll put you up in. This practice needs to be investigated.

      There is no room at Balsum.

    So bvi government have money to put illegals up in a hotel for years on end but its hard to raise minimum wage? lol its hard to put some decent effort into fixing our roads?

    is it hard to have proper infrastructure?

    is it hard to invest in the country to prevent it from looking like a 3rd world country?

    Who ever you giving the contract to pls ensure they have trained staff and paying their staff at least $10.00 per hr... These security companies are exploiting their workers especially xpats with $7 - 8 dollars per hr. Non sense pay for a risky job.

    Some of these people are women and children fleeing rape and torture in Haiti. Try reading the international news every now and again.
