ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports of the Virgin Islands has commenced new student registrations for the 2025/2026 academic year. The registration period began January 2, 2025, and will continue up to April 30, 2025.

Parents and guardians seeking to enroll students in public or private schools across the Virgin Islands are, as such, encouraged to submit their application forms within this timeframe to ensure placement.

To streamline the process, the public is advised to use the online school admissions portal at bvigov.smapply.io

Meanwhile, for those unable to access the portal, application forms are also available for collection at early childhood centres, the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports located on the second floor of the Creque Building, or can be downloaded from the official government website at www.bvi.gov.vg

Improving education

The Government of the Virgin Islands, led by Education Minister Hon Sharie B. deCastro (AL), has been seeking to revamp education delivery, with a focus on S.T.E.A.M.

The salary for teachers has also been bumped up to one of the highest in the region, under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government.

During his 2025 Budget Address in November 2024, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) highlighted that the starting salary for qualified teachers in the VI now stands at  US$55,146 per year, a figure that surpasses the starting salary in the nearby United States Virgin Islands (USVI), which stands at approximately US$50,974.
