‘Lest we forget’
“At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, the guns fell silent, signaling the end of the First World War.
“On this day every year, we remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and safety, with two minutes’ silence. We lay wreaths and lower our flags as a mark of respect. Lest we forget,” The Office of the Governor stated on its Facebook page.
Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy, is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.
