JOHNSON'S GHUT, Tortola, VI- The Safe Haven Transitional Centre (SHTC) has concluded its Feminine Hygiene Drive Outreach Initiative launched in May.

The initiative aimed to provide essential hygiene products to women in need across the Virgin Islands. Donations received included various essential items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, toilet papers, combs, mouthwash, bath soaps and feminine towels.

Feminine hygiene packs

Director of Safe Haven Transitional Centre Mrs Nellville Bronstorph said ninety-four (94) feminine hygiene packs were put together from the significant donations received and distributed to the Sister Islands through a joint effort with Sister Island Coordinator Mrs Monel Nickie.

Mrs Bronstorph, in a Government Information Service (GIS) press release on August 1, 2024, said the primary goal of the drive was to reach out to women in the Virgin Islands who are in need of these products with an emphasis on the Sister Islands.

“This Feminine Hygiene Drive Outreach was birthed out of a desire to try to make a small but impactful contribution to females within the Territory who we felt might appreciate receiving the items,” Mrs Bronstorph said. She added, “The team at the Safe Haven Transitional Centre believes that this outreach was a step towards promoting health, dignity, and well-being for females who might be unemployed, under-employed or experiencing other life challenges.”

Donations

The director said the donations received exceeded expectations.

Mrs Bronstorph said, “Because of this we were able to provide packages to a wider range of females particularly in Tortola after meeting our targets for the sister islands. We are beyond grateful to the businesses and individuals who donated.”

Forty-four Feminine Hygiene Packs were distributed on Tortola, 23 on Virgin Gorda, 17 on Jost van Dyke and 10 on Anegada.

Contributors to the initiative included Unite BVI Foundation, Road Town Wholesale, Vanterpool Pharmacy, Alphonso Warner Insurance Agency, Republic Bank BVI, CCT BVI, National Bank of the Virgin Islands, Akilah Corbin and Nicosie Dummett.

In addition, Road Town Fast Ferry, New Horizon Ferry Services and Mr Trevor Bridgewater played an essential role in transporting the items to the Sister Islands.
