ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is alerting the public to the operation of a criminal gang known as ‘Money Boys’ (MB) on Tortola.

In a press release today, Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the RVIPF said the gang consists of about 25 young men ranging in ages from 17 to 25 years old from various communities across the Territory.

Allegedly armed & dangerous

The RVIPF also revealed that members of Money Boys are “reportedly in possession of unlicenced firearms and have been linked to multiple violent incidents, including a shooting on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Long Bush, which resulted in life-threatening injuries to a male victim”.

Money Boys is also alleged to be involved in a range of other criminal activities including robberies, thefts, burglaries among other crimes.

Members of Money Boys frequent several areas across Tortola, including Purcell Estate, Free Bottom, Baughers Bay, Road Town, Huntums Ghut, Greenland, and Long Look.

Community cooperation needed

Meanwhile, Detective Chief Inspector Kenrick Davis of the RVIPF urged the members of the various communities to support the RVIPF’s efforts. “It is vital that we work together to remove this threat to peace and safety in our neighbourhoods. The safety of our young people and our community as a whole depends on everyone’s commitment to saying NO to violence and criminal behaviour.”

Over recent months, the RVIPF has intensified efforts to curb the gang’s activities. This has led to multiple arrests, firearm and ammunition seizures, and the recovery of stolen goods found within vehicles and addresses associated with gang members.

Despite the progress made in reducing the gang’s influence, the RVIPF revealed that certain members of MB have evaded detection, partly due to community members who may be complicit or passive in response to gang activity in their neighbourhoods.

Anyone who wishes to provide information about this matter can confidentially call the RVIPF’s Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS) or overseas call 1-284-800-8477.

What factors are contributing to the government's postponement in the execution of anti-gang policies?

Most their little family members are in and created these gangs. Same reason they don't want a sex offender registry cause its their brothers and uncles some fathers will be on the list.

This place is a JOKED! All of our Police should carry guns. Why do criminals have guns and not the Police to protect themselves and us? This place is backward. In the U.S., everyone knows the Police carry guns, so the criminals are wary of doing things in front of them. Here in the BVI, the criminals laugh at the Police and drive right by without fear because they are the ones carrying guns. Make this make sense! GAWD!!! I need one of those guns to protect myself because the Police cannot save me if criminals try to break into my home or business while I am there.

They are very good at instilling fear in the community. Just do your damn job that you have been paid to do.

Police being paid or not. They cannot be effective without the help of citizens who want a safe community. They cannot be everywhere and know everything. Once you understand this, people can move forward. They are not perfect but beating them down doesn't help.

    who vex, vex
when malone and frazer ran things the enforcement of the laws of our land were well executed: road blocks, stop and search

poor enforcement of laws will become harmful for the residents because the peaceful people will become vulnerable to criminals and that is Wrong

24 Square Mile and lawlessness out of control: high day and the criminal elements letting off gun shots

what will you do; simply out with your family minding your own business and your child end up in hospital or funeral home

Big man, shut your mouth, you cannot compare Mr Malone or any other COP With that Boy Frazer, that Boy going down in history as the worst COP that the BVI ever had, what he accomplished ?? he promoted no one in the constabulary (wait) only one he unlawfully promoted and had to demoting forthwith, he was so full of himself that as a COP he did management and operational duties all at once , he worked without a Deputy ( what a Clown) , all because he didn’t wanted the Fat man from East End to get promoted , that’s not all , listen, the Moral of the officers was so low that Frazer as the Cop got physically assaulted (beat up ) by 2 men in Carrot Bay and no one officer felt sorry for him , as a matter of fact, the majority of them had rejoiced ,,he was the creator of the famous phrase (THE TOP HEAVY) basing this so no one can be promote , and the worst part about all of this , is that this man … ( I will leave it there ) I wish no to continue using my precious time with this man/boy , ( (waste of nine Months ))

25 is too many. They really do take us for fools because they know citizens has no means to protect themselves. Eventually law abiding people will take sense out of nonsense. Pass the cannabis law let the people grow their own and stop getting medicine from gun wielding criminals. If they want to go on a boat and ride with a helicopter on them let them. Police know 25 people are in the gang and know their age. We just going to allow them to operate????

Post up their names & petition the law makers to pass a law to round them up.

Benefiting from the crime so they don’t turned them in. On a serious note. Parents have a lot to blame for this type of behavior. A lot of parents see children with things they know they can’t afford and don’t question it. If parents begin to to in house raids they’re find a lot of evidence that their children are into nothing good. However when you have a mom and dad who’s nothing good; then can blame the child.

Indeed families play an important role, but as the saying goes, blood is thicker than water. Nobody wants to turn in family, making them all, alas, complicit. Many crimes here would have been solved long ago if it wasn’t for the code of silence.

Having read that press release, it would seems like the police have a head start with information about M/Boys. And if that is the case, then get busy in doing whats needed to be done to remove them off the streets. Let the public see that you are doing something and they might be incline to assist

A point of view to consider

The businesses bring people here to work and pay them minimum wage. While this may be good for business, it creates a bigger social problem down the road. The minimum wage earners will have children. Raising children on minimum wage in a society where everyone wants to live like they are wealthy, creates an environment where persons see crime as a means to keep up with the Jones’. In addition many of those persons live in sub-standard accommodation due to affordability, plus they are away from their children for long periods of time trying to make a dollar. Eventually, the street raises those children and they form groups (gangs) for support, to make up for the lack of family structure.

it is now time for the older men , local men from Tortola to sort these young boys out, and i do mean by the same way that the young boys want to run about. Before the DEA took out the lead drug dealer on Tortola everything was clam , people got their bit but no one stepped out like is happening now. Time for a new older Kingpin to install fear into these lil boys and show them what real power is about.

Go write a anti gang law. Premier on the security counsel and you mean he knows about this for months and then the police say they dont have cause for arrest.

They are in a criminal organization what do you have to wait for them to rape someone or up the bar to kill if they are already robbing and burglarizing? The strongest people made it through slavery now we are weak unarmed and acting like sponges. GO WRITE THE ANTI GANG LAW for everyone's sake. Toss them in like Honduras. Want to be in a gang good its a prison gang. Batty boy gang.

Wouldn’t a stronger message be directed AT these boys! Versus telling innocent citizens to be scared? Why isn’t the RVIPF sending a message that “we know who you are! We are coming for you with no questions asked! You will not terrorize our public communities any longer! Money Boys your days are over! And to you parents and other harboring and coddling these criminals, we are coming for you and your assets too!”

That should be the message! Not residents need to be scared. Ridiculous

Here are tips. Set up daily imprompto stop and search throughout the islands including Anegada, VG and JVD. Get to those blind spots where vehicles cannot turn around or shift direction once they're in the lane. Those weapons have to move from point A to B. Show the community that youall are working. You have the info, now move into action. We always here of the many new recruits in the force but nobody ever see them on the beat or patrol. The criminals know that moving around and also getting away is easy.
