ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Commissioner of Police, Mr Michael B. Matthews says the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) will finally re-locate from above the bakery at the Riteway Food Markets location in Pasea Estate, after having been there since around January of 2018.

The ToP Cop was at the time speaking with radio host Kenneth G. Gladstone on the October 22, 2019, edition of his radio show 'A Moment of Truth', on PSI Online Radio.

The Force had taken up residence above the supermarket as its temporary headquarters following damages sustained to its main Road Town building as a result of the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria of 2017.

"Our Police Headquarters has been repaired, there's a new roof on it, new windows on it... In fact, I did a walk through the other day and it really is looking in pristine condition and inside offers us a very up-to-date, modern and capable building," Mr Matthews said.

Awaiting Furniture

The Commissioner noted that ahead of the move, the Road Town building is only awaiting furniture and the force is hoping to procure those in time for the Christmas season.

"The latest timeline we are anticipating just before or shortly after Christmas to make the move, from the supermarket back to a properly functioning police headquarters," Mr Matthews said.

The ToP Cop underscored that while the residency above the supermarket bakery has gone well, it has always been a temporary arrangement and was never well suited for providing the best policing to the public.

everything takes time. on another note, what we really need though is a modern police station in Road Town. i think there were plans for building one a couple of years ago. such police station, of which the current one is located in a very prime and convenient spot by the way, should be at least 4 stories high with an elevated ground floor. first floor can be for reception, interrogation/questioning facilities, holding cells, etc. second floor can be for administrative offices, conference rooms, kitchen/dining area. third floor can be for accommodating polices that must temporarily be accommodated there for whatever reason..offices in training, offices on call that must remain physically present because of emergencies or scheduling needs, gym facilities; and the 4th floor for the top brass of the force, and control room for top security operations. with this done, we can use the headquarters building at Sir Olva Georges plaza for another benefitial purpose. my 2 cents

You have some very good ideas. However, the word is Police, not Polices.

How long will we keep crying IRMA for complacency? Two years is more than enough to rebuild a police station, something as important.
