RVIPF to launch non-emergency number on April 1
This is in addition to the emergency numbers 999 and 911 already in existence as well as Crime Stoppers.
According to Acting Public Information Officer of the RVIPF Sergeant Carl Mason, the RVIPF is currently in a transitional phase regarding its response system and testing is still being done to ensure efficiency and functionality before the number becomes active on April 1.
“There will also be a publicity campaign to educate the public about the numbers they need to call but what will happen from now on is that calls to the police will go through to the control room and be directed accordingly. Obviously if it is an emergency it will be dealt with immediately by the control room and if it is not an emergency then it will be passed to the appropriate station or the appropriate officer and that’s the plan once the pilot phase is over. So we are in a kind of a transitional period at the moment,” Sergeant Mason told Virgin Islands News Online.
