Run it Red whips Come to Defend in VG Summer Jam
The game was eagerly awaited by an already excited crowd who sat in great anticipation expecting Without A Doubt to wipe the floor with Run It Red, a team who the year before was pretty much average. Unfortunately for them and the Virgin Gorda fans, Run It Red came out with a new composition of players and defeated Without a Doubt 97-77.
Such was the domination of Run It Red that when the final whistle blew it was like a ghost town in Virgin Gorda as Without A Doubt, probably one of the best loved teams in the Summer jam League get beat out of their skin; but take nothing away from Run It Red, they earned every point and in the process have not only made a name for themselves but they have in the process set themselves a very high standard.
From the first quarter, Run It Red ran the ball at a fast pace and had totally drained the home team by the end of the third quarter.
The secret behind Run It Red was one player, Woods, who was simply unstoppable. He not only played great offence but was just as effective defensively. His quick hands from a guard position brought about many steals and his ability to jump was just amazing. It would have to be said that Shawn Woods has the jumping ability of a young Kennedy Bass and once he stays focused will no doubt be as great a player as Bass.
Without A Doubt admittedly are a hurting team this year with the loss of Steve Parillon who has moved to East Rockers with David 'Bolo' Lettsome. Also very noticeably missing in action is the heart and voice of Without a Doubt’s, Sherwin Chillman Leonard, their head coach. In fact the team relied on Hilroy Warner to play and coach the team at the same time.
For Without a Doubt, now 0-2, they will have to go back to the drawing board and try to avoid not making it to the play-offs for the first time in their franchise history. This will be no easy task considering the teams they have not played yet are meant to be much tougher team which includes Set It Off and East Rockers out of Tortola.
Meanwhile the rising stars on the horizon, Run It Red, are a young exciting team and with the victory over Without a Doubt so comprehensively, have sent a message out to the other teams that they are the team to beat in 2013. As things stand presently, if Run It Red maintains the level of play they displayed against Without a Doubt every team in the A Division will have a problem trying to beat them. In other words, at this point only Run It Red can defeat themselves. The question is can they maintain such a high level of play?
