Rudy J. J. Vanterpool remanded for gun & ammo possession
Rudy Jevon Junior Vanterpool, 27, was allegedly found with a Glock firearm when not being licensed to carry such weapon on May 27, 2020.
On the same day, he was also allegedly found with 6 rounds of 9mm cartridge without a valid permit.
On the charge of Breach of Curfew, Vanterpool was allegedly found on Millionaire St, Virgin Gorda, when a curfew was in place between 7:00pm and 6:00 am on May 27, 2020.
Vanterpool forcibly entered woman’s home & cranked gun- Court
Additionally, it was alleged that on May 24, 2020, Vanterpool entered the lawful property of a woman he once shared an intimate relationship with when the intention was to intimidate the woman.
According to Crown Counsel Mellisa Brewley, the woman had terminated the relationship with Vanterpool in January 2020; however, Vanterpool on May 24, 2020, visited the home of the woman around 1:00am and gained entry by kicking in the door.
The woman, who has a 2-year-old daughter, alleged that the Defendant pulled out a gun and cranked it; however, after she threatened to call the police Vanterpool allegedly ran away.
According to the court, Vanterpool returned to the home on May 27, 2020, around 5:30am; however, he fled when police were called.
The Virtual Complaint (VC) alleged that when Vanterpool ran it was noticed that something dropped from his waist. A subsequent police search of the area found a gun, believed to be what had dropped from Vanterpool’s waist.
Police then started a search for the suspect and came upon a white boat at one of the shores of Virgin Gorda. A search of the vessel, believed to be Vanterpool’s, unearthed a black bag with clothes and a passport belonging to the suspect.
Vanterpool was later found hiding behind a rock in the vicinity of the boat.
‘I got thirsty’
According to the court, when police asked Vanterpool why he went to the VC’s home, he allegedly said he was looking for employment and got thirsty.
It was revealed during the application for bail that Vanterpool, at the age of 15, was sent to juvenile prison for several years for robbery and burglary.
Apart from that, bail was refused on the grounds that Vanterpool may not show up for his trial and that the VC has a 2-year-old and was scared for her life.
Vanterpool’s lawyer, E. Leroy Jones informed the court that his client was shot in the chest some years ago and constantly suffers from breathing problems, which would often require him seeking medical attention at Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda.
Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin; however, said she was confident the medical staff at HMP would be able to address the problem if it occurs.
Vanterpool is to return to court on July 21, 2020.
